It is safe to say that Americans love their sports especially football. Having a home team to root for can make people feel like part of a community. People follow their teams with an almost religious passion, and can make instant friends with someone just by sitting next to each other at a bar and realizing you are both cheering at the same touchdowns. If you own, have recently opened, or are thinking about opening a sports bar, make your business the best it can be and live up to its name by giving customers what they come in for-football.Almost as much as for their love of the game, Americans are also known for their tendency to move away from home, sometimes frequently. We go off to college in another state, then enter the working world in yet another. One way to fight off some of the homesickness that is an inevitable result of all this moving around is to be able to watch your football team with fellow fans, from no matter what part of the country you are in. And one of the best places to do this is at a sports bar.Let us be honest-all those Sunday night regular customers that frequent sports bars? They are not there just for the draft beer. They want to see their team in action. And they want to see the entire game, not read about it in the news or see just bits and pieces online or highlights from a segment on TV. They do not want to miss a single second of play, and they want to share the excitement of every touchdown with fellow fans.If you own or manage such an establishment and have not already done so, you should contact your satellite provider and ask for a subscription to the NFL Sunday Ticket. This will give you-and, more importantly, your customers-access to teams and games from all corners of the country, regardless of whether or not they are being aired on local networks or cable broadcasts. With this package, you will get a huge selection of out-of-market games-as well as all regional games produced by FOX and CBS-throughout the 17-week NFL regular season. For your bar, that means four months of customer satisfaction that can't be topped. Plus, if you are concerned about your budget, you can consider a subscription a valuable investment, even inexpensive, if you think about how much your bar and food sales will go up as more and more people start showing up and stay longer (at least until the end of the game). If you really want to set yourself apart from the competition and keep your customers coming back for more, add the Superfan package to your subscription. With this extra package, you will receive as many as 12 NFL games in high definition picture quality, as well as various other bonus features, such as Game Mix, which is a channel that shows 8 games at the same time.

As a former NFL player, I am very mindful of what products I put into my body. There are many products that claim to be the solution to your dietary or health needs. The fact of the matter is that if we ate a proper diet consistently, our bodies would not break down as quickly as it does, and we would not be dealing with the health issues we are faced with today. If people will take the time to educate themselves on what their body needs nutritionally based upon their age and medical condition, they would know what to eat, how much water to drink, how much exercise to do, and what supplements to take.Going through this process is why I chose to talk about a dietary supplement called Tunguska Blast. Tunguska Blast is a powerful dietary supplement developed as a result of the miracle of 1908 in Tunguska, Russia. What makes Tunguska Blast special is the fact that it has 10 adaptagens! An adaptagen is a substance that helps the body respond, on the cellular level, to various stresses put upon it. This allows the body to help regulate many of the its' systems: the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system, cardiovascular system and mental functions.  The effects one can detect are an increase in mental clarity and physical energy, enhanced immunity and resistance to disease, reduced recovery time after exercise (particularly significant for endurance athletes), improved metabolism, and more restful sleep. If you are an athlete, finding a product that has adaptagens will enhance your physical performance, and reduce your recovery time.  This is a tremendous benefit for athletes who need to recover from the wear and tear of games and working out.  Athletes everywhere are looking for an edge for enhanced performance, as well as an edge to ensure their bodies are primed for peak performance.  Considering the fact that steroid use is out of control in sports, taking a product with adaptagens can benefit athletes of all ages.Even if you are not an athlete, the benefits of adaptagens will improve your overall well being by supporting your immune system.  Being able to take a natural supplement that will help your body fight the effects of stress, and illness is invaluable today. When I played football, I played on offense because I enjoyed being proactive and not reactive.  Now in life I am still on offense by researching the needs of my body, and being proactive in taking care of myself, rather than being reactive and being forced to address a medical issues after the fact.

Recently, noted ESPN columnist Bill Simmons pointed out a curious fact: NFL Home teams are winning at a much lower rate than before. From 1990-1999, home teams won at a rate of 59.6%. From 2000-2009, the win rate was down to 57%, a statistically significant decline in winning percentage. During the same period, playoff win percentage was down from 74% to 57%, a huge drop.Simmons credits sterile new stadiums that disenfranchise the lower paying yet louder cheering fans. He does make a point. According to Forbes' Magazine, the Washington Redskins are the most profitable team in the NFL and that is directly related to the number of luxury suites in their stadium. Washington is a terrible team and their stadium is quiet and expensive - what Simmons would argue is a microcosm of the modern NFL.Much more importantly for NFL bettors, they should realize that Home teams only win at a 47% rate against the spread. That means, you could actually bet and cover the juice simply by betting away teams against the spread... Wow, that is a huge development. Apparently the linesmakers haven't picked up on this trend so take advantage while it lasts. More importantly, make sure you have the discipline to bet by the numbers. Simmons, who had a losing record against the spread over the period he analyzed will hopefully listen to his own advice. While it is important to analyze spreads, numbers, injuries and the teams playing a game, it is most important to have discipline. If you analyze numbers and find a system that works - then you stick with that system, you win money betting over the long term.Anquan Boldin Jersey Replica, Danny Woodhead Jersey White, Anquan Boldin Jersey Womens, Replica Brian Urlacher Jersey, Premier Danny Woodhead Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Replica, Anquan Boldin Premier Jersey, Authentic Anquan Boldin Jersey, Danny Woodhead Premier Jersey, Anquan Boldin Jersey Premier, Brian Urlacher Jersey Authentic, Danny Woodhead Jersey Black, Premier Brian Urlacher Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Blue, Authentic Danny Woodhead Jersey, Anquan Boldin Jersey Authentic, Anquan Boldin Jersey White, Danny Woodhead Jersey Red, Replica Anquan Boldin Jersey, Brian Urlacher Jersey Premier, NFL Anquan Boldin Jersey, Replica Danny Woodhead Jersey, Authentic Brian Urlacher Jersey, Anquan Boldin Jersey Blue, Anquan Boldin Jersey Black, Brian Urlacher Jersey Black, Danny Woodhead Jersey Replica, Danny Woodhead Jersey Authentic, Brian Urlacher Jersey Blue, Danny Woodhead Replica Jersey, Reebok Anquan Boldin Jersey, Danny Woodhead Jersey Premier, Brian Urlacher Replica Jersey, Danny Woodhead Authentic Jersey, Premier Anquan Boldin Jersey, Brian Urlacher Authentic Jersey, Anquan Boldin Authentic Jersey, Brian Urlacher Premier Jersey, Anquan Boldin Replica Jersey

Over the years I've attended my share of live sporting events, but I must say there's a lot to like about live NFL games. In fact, I'd like to share 3 of those lessons below that you too can use to build your business.1. Know what business you're REALLY in. Think the NFL is just about football? Think again. The NFL is in the entertainment business and yes the NFL is well aware of that.At least for the Arizona Cardinals (it might be different at other stadiums) but along with the cheerleaders and a big red bird running around, they also have lots of scheduled little skits throughout the game. Considering how many commercial breaks you sit through when you watch a game on TV, it's remarkable how little downtime there is during a live game. So, what business are YOU really in? And chances are, you're NOT in the business you think you're in. For instance, you may think you're a coach and you're in the coaching business, but truly, do your clients really want a coach? No. They want the results they're getting from your coaching. (Think about it, people are busy enough, do you think they really want to carve out the time each week or month to talk to you? They're doing it because they see the value and are getting the results. They're certainly not doing it because they have an extra hour laying around they don't know what to do with.)Focus on what business you're really in, and you'll have a much easier time attracting clients.2. You can't bore anyone into buying your products or services. Now, I agree the NFL has it a little easier since they're in the entertainment business. But what about you?I'm not saying you need to dress up in a red bird costume and run around acting silly. But you do need to be at the very least interesting to your ideal clients so they want to stick around and listen to what you have to say. If you bore them, they won't be sticking around. What can you do to more interesting (or, better yet, entertaining) in your marketing?3. Pay attention to the little things. Again, this just might be Phoenix, but I must say this city has it together when it comes to moving large numbers of people around. (I also experienced this during my marathon participations.) I'm amazed at how fast you get in and out of the games and the parking lots. (They even set up a row of additional bathrooms next to the parking lot in case you didn't want to wait in line inside the stadium.)While that may seem like a small thing -- after all, you're not going to a game because it's easy to park -- it really does add to the whole experience. How nice it is to know you can attend a game without being stuck in traffic for hours having to go to the bathroom. So what "little" things can you offer your clients? What intangibles can you give them that seem small but make a big difference? Maybe you have some great forms or templates you can gift them. Or maybe you attract a wonderful community and you allow your clients to network with each other.Think about some things you can offer your clients that don't cost you much in time or money but can really make a difference in how they feel about working with you.

2006 Topps Football cards, one of the best classes to come out of the NFL draft, in quite some time.Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Jay Cutler, D'brickashaw Ferguson, Maurice James-Drew, Brandon Marshall, to name a few. 2006 Topps Chrome Football cards was one of my favorite sports cards to collect that year.Originally, there was some confusion with the special edition version of Topps Football cards in the packages of 2006 Topps Chrome Football, but eventually people realized that there was a distinction between the two except on the versions of the "refractor cards". Unfortunately some people were fooled into paying higher amounts for these cards, thinking that perhaps they were a short printed item. The cards were never numbered, or short printed. The 2006 Topps Football product was absolutely loaded with rookies, you were able to pick your rookie out and collect with vigor. What a marvelous class the 2006 NFL draft had. Rookies were excelling at high levels, all over the NFL. The Tennessee Titans, won the sweepstakes of the draft by having rookie of the year honors, with Vince Young. Reggie Bush was not far behind in the voting, and did not win but none the less was just as explosive in the NFL in 2006 during his inception to the league, as he was with USC never missing a major beat. Reggie Bush is a proven winner.Brandon Marshall teamed up with Jay Cutler on the Denver Broncos staff and began to click and are sure to be a formidable tandem for many years to come, especially under the expertise coaching of Mike Shanahan. D'brickashaw Ferguson will be a mainstay on the NY Jets offensive line for many years to come and blocking for Brett Farve won't be the same than Chad Pennington.Overall the collation on this product is pretty good, take it from me I busted about 15 boxes of this product and made quite a few sets, and compared to 2006 Football card products from other companies, namely Upper Deck, the boxes give you a higher completion percentage than say Upper Deck SPX. Also the cards are much easier to grade, of the 40 or so autographed cards from the set that I have submitted to Beckett and PSA, many of the cards came back mint or better. The 2006 Topps Chrome Football product also does not chip as easily as the Upper Deck SPX product, which is printed on thicker stock paper. Making this a top choice to collect if 2006 is your year for football. There is still much of this product out there and it is fairly inexpensive, compared to some of the other product from 2006. The health issues of Vince Young and Reggie Bush doesn't help the product, but this is temporary. These high performing athletes, will rebound and you can expect the product to gain interest again. If you are interested in know more about this product feel free to contact me. I will send you any information you need.   Let's discuss how the NFL is a great model to structure your home business opportunity after. Not only is this the perfect way to think about your network marketing business, but it also relates to any of you that have a team to rely on.Since most of you agree that the Dallas Cowboys are the first that come to mind we'll use them. (Wink) Most teams that regularly succeed over the long run in the NFL have strong ownership. The owner usually has great passion for the game, and will do anything to help his team succeed. The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones goes out each year and pays his players that have stepped up beyond expectations. He desperately wants to win at all costs! If you are a MLM business owner you should have first & foremost chosen a legitimate home business opportunity that has great leadership at the top. Who started your network marketing company, are they ethical, and do they care about your success? Do they reward you with trips or a car allowance? This is critical for any legit home business opportunity in any MLM company.Clearly the NFL has some of the best athletes in the world. These dudes are bigger, faster, and stronger than any other sport top to bottom. They market their product which is the actual game in so many ways it's ridiculous. You can buy your favorite player on your favorite team's jersey. You can join a fantasy football league and run your own team. The star players do appearances and interviews all throughout the season.Ask yourself this, does your MLM home based business have great products and can they be marketed in different ways? Great products do sell and you will need customers in your home based business that only want to use that which they enjoy. So if you want repeated purchases your product better not suck. The NFL has the best football coaches known to man. These guys are brilliant leaders and have created massive skill in their careers that enable them to win. It's absolutely mind boggling that half of these men each year fail, and fail bad. But guess what, this is the best and most competitive sport in the land so what do you expect? The MLM industry is also stupid competitive and you had better be ready to stand out. So who are your network marketing trainers, who are the Mack Daddy leaders of your company? Are they teaching you the systems and strategies that help make them completely free of time & money? In football you have different positions, all of which are critical to the team's success. I need you to stress the word team ok. If somebody isn't doing their job and doesn't have their head in the game then the whole teams does not succeed. A Quarterback leads the team, he directs players where to go, and must always remain calm when things go haywire in a game. Running backs, Receivers, and Defensive players all play key roles in team chemistry.Who is your MLM team Quarterback, who is going to lead you into battle and pick you up once you get knocked down? You will get knocked down in the network marketing business I promise you. Will you get up?Will you quit like most do?Will you even take action or are you to scared to pursue your dreams?Who are the role players on your network marketing team? If you are a role player then do your part. Not everyone is going to be a superstar, nor will everyone have massive network marketing success.I hope you take this comparison and think about all of the similarities of your home based business opportunity and the NFL. It's one heck of a money making business model and if you use it the right way you too can start writing your own checks, just like Jerry Jones.

There are a few different factors which may help to determine how a team is going to do in the upcoming NFL season. Although these factors are not ironclad with regard to predicting team status in the upcoming season, they are factors which help to show how a team might do the next year.Entry of New PlayersThe entry of new players on an NFL team may help critics and sportscasters to predict how a team may possibly do in the upcoming football season. If the team made some good trades in the off-season, then their likelihood of playing well is increased. In the alternative, those teams who may have chosen questionable players may find that their positive chances of success are diminished a bit.Player DeparturesOne should also consider what NFL teams lost what players in the off-season. This will also help to determine how a team might do in the upcoming season and whether they are Super Bowl worthy.Past StatisticsLastly, past statistics of an NFL team will also help individuals to guess as to how a particular NFL team is going to do next season. By looking at their records, one can have a good idea as to how the team might progress next year.SummaryThese are just a few factors one should consider when trying to predict the future success of an NFL team in the upcoming football season. They should be viewed in light of one another to obtain the best possible picture.

Of course, recognizing a football team as the best in the league is purely based on opinion. Your bias definitely has a lot to do with where you come from. Born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, I happen to be a full-blown, paint your face green and wear a cheese head, die hard, crazy Green Bay Packer fan. I have been watching the green and gold since diaper status. But just because I grew up cheering for this Midwest team doesn't mean that I'm a poser. The Green Bay Packers are recognized by many as the greatest football team in the NFL. You will find fans no matter which state you are in, and that's an amazing thing. It's no wonder why these guys have such loyal fans, they are on a four game winning streak in this 2009 season, and they are making their way to the NFL playoffs with the number one defensive team and number sixth offensive line in the entire league. For all of you fans constantly searching for more facts to run your mouth with, read on for some very interesting, perhaps unknown facts about the greatest team in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers.1.The "Green Bay Packers" just so happen to be the longest-standing team name in the history of the NFL.2.Other team nicknames of the past are "Indian Packers" or "Indians" (1919), "Acme Packers" (1921), "Blues" (1922), "Big Bay Blues" (1920's), "Bays", (1918-1940), and currently "The Pack," and "The Green and Gold."3.Every single Packer game has been sold out since all the way back in 1960.4.The average waiting period to get your hands on Green Bay Packer tickets at Lambeau Field is approximately 35 years. (There are more people on the waiting list than seats in the stadium).5.Subsequently, the Packers have one of the largest fan bases in the NFL, probably the largest but Steelers fans will argue.6.Each year the Green Bay Packers play an intra-squad scrimmage at Lambeau Field called "Family Night."7.The Packer foundation has put limitations on the use of similar logo looks as their "G" mark is trademarked though it's been altered several times since 1961.8.The Packers have played their home games at the famous Lambeau Field since 1957 and it is the longest continuously used stadium in the league's history.9.When Lambeau Field was built (after the City Stadium became too small), it became the first stadium that was built exclusively for an NFL team.10.The Green Bay Packers remain one of the last "small town teams" and they are the only non-profit, community owned major league sports team in the US to this day.

Ever get really upset when an out of market football game is on television and it's one you are absolutely itching to watch? Whether it's a premium game for your favorite team or a team you despise vying for you local team's playoff spot, it is incredibly annoying to miss an important football game during the NFL season. Luckily, in addition to the games shown on basic cable channels and ESPN's Monday Night Football, there are other high definition options to supplement the National Football League games that are not shown on television during the regular season. Following the NFL obsessively became a lot easier with the advent of satellite TV and premium programming. For the true football fan out there, there are many packages that come with television programming that include premium sports channels. One of the most beneficial for an NFL fan is the NFL Sunday Ticket. It is a premium channel that focuses on out of market coverage, broadcasting National Football Lague regular season games unavailable on those local affiliates. Based on advertisements, its main consumers are those who are unable to see their team on local television because they are out of market or residence. It is available through many satellite TV providers in the United States, Canada, North and South America and some of the Caribbean including the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Jamaica. The NFL Sunday Ticket was launched in 1994 as a supplement to local affiliate channels and ESPN for real football fans who can't stand to miss a game or be out of the trade gossip or standings loop. It was one of the first premium sports channels of its kind and has since launched many successful other pro-sports channels like MLB Extra Innings, golf channels, English Premiere League channels, and more. With these kinds of channels, you can purchase single games pay per view or multiple games a week or all games in a season; it is up to you to choose who, what, where, when and which teams you want to watch. The program is broken up into different packages in case games are blacked out due to cable television. You are able to subscribe to certain games and highlights through branding known as the Superfan. With the Superfan subscription, viewers are entitled to 12 high definition football games of their liking during the regular season. With Superfan on the NFL Sunday Ticket, you are also entitled to highlights, recaps and live games on your computer if you are in the office and unable to watch them on your television at home for the day. Perhaps the best feature of this premium channel is the Game Zone feature. It shows eight games all at once and flips through the various scores, time remaining in the games, standings and more.

At the stadium, 400 football fans had to be relocated due to problems in seats. Days after the game, NFL decided to repay the expenses to fans and made a reimbursement offer, which the fans rejected. Then, NFL made another, better offer. Fans rejected that one, too. Now, NFL has increased the compensation for the third time. The first reimbursement offer by NFL put in front of the 400 fans the option of getting $2,400 each from NFL. It should be noted that the offered money was three times the face value of each affected seat. The first offer by NFL also included a ticket to next year's Super Bowl to each of the 400 fans. When the fans rejected the first offer, the league offered the 400 fans each the addition of a ticket to any future Super Bowl plus airfare and hotel costs, to the previous offer. When the fans recently rejected the second one, too, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told that after hearing the rejection, the NFL has further increased the offer to either $5,000 or reimbursement for "actual documented" Super Bowl expenses, whichever is higher. The NFL email to the 400 fans states, "As you may know, we have been reaching out directly to those fans who regrettably and inexcusably were unable to watch Super Bowl XLV from a seat in Cowboys Stadium. In listening to your feedback, we have decided to offer a third option."It is important to note here that there were actually some 1,250 seats that were declared unsafe hours before the Super Bowl. Although the NFL jumbled seats to make room for about 850 fans to sit, the remaining 400 poor souls had to watch the game from standing-room areas or on TV from places with no view of the field.

TV programming has come a long way from its early days and just when you think you have seen it all in terms of great quality programming some TV programming service provider kicks it up a few notches with something new to keep their family of viewers entertained. The NFL is known for what they do, which is professional football and up until now it really was just the games that were shown and they came on at a certain time and that was the time to sit down and enjoy some NFL programming. After the game was over it was time to go home from the sports lounge, your friends house, or get up from your seat in your living room and finish out your day. Things have really changed now at DirecTV in the area of sports programming, because now the NFL has its own channel that goes on for seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. This programming channel is produced in conjunction with the NFL and only DirecTV has exclusive programming rights to it, so don't bother looking for it anywhere else.As it turns out the NFL is a gold mine for premium sports programming that has gone untapped for years up until now. With NFL Sunday Ticket you of course get all of their regular and preseason games right up to and through the Super Bowl game, but you also get so much more. To start with you also get all the best football action that the European league has to offer from across the Atlantic and they really do have a lot to offer there. Then there are all of the special events that the NFL sponsors such as charity and celebrity events. Because the NFL now has its own programming channel, they are putting on more of these kinds of events then they ever have before, so there really are a lot of them. Then you get NFL sports news and with this feature you get to hear about all of the news and gossip that is out there that you just wouldn't have access to with a standard premium sports channel. Then there are all of the game reviews, commentary and debate that is featured and it is of a caliber that you probably aren't used to now that the NFL itself has a hand in the production of this programming channel. Also you get a non stop stream of great one on one interviews with all of the most leading and the most controversial players and figures in the game of professional football. It seems that every season there is at least one player that is all hardware and no software that is determined to be a complete jackass every time he's in front of a microphone. With NFL Sunday Ticket you get to hear it all and nothing is sugar coated on this programming channel. This channel can be added to any one of DirecTV's Total Choice programming packages so you can get it on one of their smaller economical programming packages and still stay within your budget.

Watching an NFL football game in person at the stadium is one of life's ultimate experiences.  If you're a football fan you know what I mean.  Being in one of the top NFL stadiums is even more enjoyable.  Which football stadiums are the best?  Out of the 31 NFL football stadiums, here are the top 5.#5 - Cleveland Browns StadiumBrowns stadium in Cleveland, OH ranks in at number 5 on the list of top NFL stadiums.  Cleveland stadium is a great place to watch a football game.  Built near downtown Cleveland, the architects of the stadium built in large gaps in order for fans to be able to look out of the stadium and into downtown Cleveland.  They also installed a lot of glass in the stadium to see out of.  The atmosphere in the stadium is breathtaking.  The fans in the "dog pound" are some of the most boisterous and rabid fans of any NFL football team.  The stadium is also built near the beautiful Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.#4 - Ford FieldComing in at number 4 is Ford Field in Detroit, MI.  Ford Field was the site for the 2006 NFL Super Bowl.  That will tell you something about this stadium right there.  This is without a doubt the most beautiful indoor stadium in all of football.  Looking at all of the brick and exposed ductwork inside the stadium gives it an old time feel, sort of like being inside a loft that was restored in an old building.  It even includes a 7-story atrium.#3 - Reliant StadiumHouston, TX is home to Reliant Stadium and the Houston Texans.  This football stadium has a unique fabric that the roof is made of which allows the sunlight to shine through.  The roof can also be completely opened to allow the natural weather elements to come through.  Even though this is used mostly for an indoor stadium, the football field is made of natural grass and not artificial turf.  Every NFL player will tell you that this stadium is one of the best to play football in.#2 Raymond James StadiumComing in at number 2 is Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL.  This is one of the most unique stadiums in all of football.  It is almost like a theme park adventure.  There are lots of palm trees, flags everywhere and even a 103-foot pirate ship.  This ship is located in Buccaneer Cove in the stadium and has a cannon that shoots cannon balls when Tampa Bay scores a touchdown.  The football stadium is also a favorite among those who love the sunlight.  The weather in Tampa makes this NFL stadium one of the nicest to watch a football game in.#1 Qwest FieldThe top NFL football stadium to watch a game is has to be Qwest Field in Seattle, WA.  This stadium gives you one of the most beautiful views anywhere of Mount Rainier and the downtown Seattle skyline.  It's breathtaking to see.  There is no bad seat in the house to watch one of the better football teams playing from.  The atmosphere, location and view, make this the best NFL football stadium to be in for a game.Packers Jersey, Cheap Packers Jerseys, Authentic NBA shop, Official Indianapolis Colts Jersey, NFL Packers Jerseys, Official New York Giants Jersey, Authentic New York Giants Jersey, Giants Jersey, Packers Jerseys, Official NFL Shop, Reebok New York Giants Jersey, Colts Stitched Jersey, Official MLB Store, Chiefs Jersey, Colts Jersey, Sports Jerseys, Kansas City Chiefs Jersey, Indianapolis Colts Jersey, Official Kansas City Chiefs Jersey, Reebok Kansas City Chiefs Jersey

UpdatedAug 25, 2011 5:28 AM ETHOUSTON (AP)(Eds: With AP Photos.)By KRISTIE RIEKENAP Sports Writer Receiver Jacoby Jones has been a role player on offense and a key contributor to special teams since the Houston Texans drafted him in the third round out of tiny Lane College in 2007.The Texans are expecting Jones to do even more. Houston signed the free agent to a three-year deal worth more than $10 million, hoping he can help boost an already potent offense better known for Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub and Arian Foster.Jones shakes his head thinking about how much he's matured in his years in Houston.Early in his career, he had trouble with dropped passes on the field and wasn't allowed to make a trip to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars in 2009 after he was late to a team meeting a day before the game.''When I first got here, I was like a little kid running around all day,'' he said. ''I've matured a lot. I had a lot of guys to look up to and learn from. Coach Kube (Gary Kubiak) took me under like one of his own and that was big.''Jones said watching that Jacksonville game from home pushed him into getting himself together.''That was really the light that went off and just shook me,'' he said. ''I was like: `I never want to be in this type situation ever again.' The guys took their time and had faith in me so I've got to buckle down.'''And he did. The 27-year-old Jones hasn't had any problems like that since, and he's also taken a better approach to everything he does surrounding the game.''He's grown up from the standpoint of his preparation,'' Kubiak said. ''Jacoby does a good job in the classroom now. So all those things of being a pro that make it easy to come out here and play, he handles that stuff now. Now he's just got to work hard at re-finding his skills and running routes, studying players and if he does that, then there's another level for him to reach.''Jones, who has 96 receptions for 1,229 yards and nine touchdowns in his career, said being around the All-Pro Johnson helped him learn how to do things the right way.''That guy, you look at him and he seems like he's not really going hard, but it's just that he makes it look easy because he's so smooth,'' Jones said. ''He's detail-oriented and does everything right. So I look at a person like that and I try to use the same ways he uses.''Jones has returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns in his career, which is tied for the franchise record for return touchdowns. He will only return punts this season, with first-year Texan Danieal Manning taking over the kickoff return duties. That will give Jones more time to focus on offense, where he's coming off a season where he finished with a career-high 51 receptions for 562 yards. Johnson is the obvious starter at one of the receiver spots, but Kubiak said he also sees both Jones and Kevin Walter as starters.Kubiak's expectations for Jones this season are straightforward.''Continue to make more plays,'' Kubiak said when asked what he needs from Jones. ''He had his biggest year with us as a pro last year. He and Kevin pushed each other every day. I think all three of those guys as starters. That's the reason we wanted him back on this team. I think he's in position now to make even more and more plays.''Jones knows what he needs to do, even if he isn't looking to reach specific numbers this season.''I'm not really setting any goals, as far as number of punt returns or kick returns or touchdowns or catches,'' he said. ''I just want to play my role and whenever they on me to make a play, I make that play.''Notes: Kubiak said LB DeMeco Ryans (elbow) could play on Saturday against San Francisco. He worked out with a trainer on a field away from the rest of the team on Wednesday. ''DeMeco's doing a lot better today,'' Kubiak said. ''He's got his flexibility back. I didn't want him out here because we were beating on each other a little bit today, so I'm trying to be smart.'' ... Kubiak said that RB Derrick Ward (concussion) will be cleared to play against the 49ers.

UpdatedAug 24, 2011 6:26 AM ETMinnesota Vikings defensive tackle KevinWilliams faces a reduced suspension for testing positive for thebanned diuretic StarCaps in 2008 and likely will not be punishedbefore Minnesota opens the regular season Sept. 11 at San Diego, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.Four months after the courts cleared the way for the NFL tosuspend Williams, former teammate Pat Williams and Saints defensiveend Will Smith for four games, the StarCaps dispute remains anunresolved bargaining chip in negotiations between the NFL andPlayers Association on a new drug-testing policy, the sourcessaid. The sides agreed to blood tests for human growth hormone intheir new collective bargaining agreement although league and unionnegotiators met with the World Anti-Doping Agency in Montreal todayto review protocol before the players decide whether to approve thepolicy for this season.Negotiations are expected to extend into the regular season, according to one union official who spoke on condition of anonymitybecause the talks are supposed to remain confidential, leavingWilliams' availability to the Vikings an open question. The NFL declined comment about the StarCaps case."Nothing new to report," spokesman Randall Liu said thisweek. At issue for the league is how to discipline the StarCapsplayers under the new CBA for violating terms of the expired laboragreement. Players who tested positive for banned weight-losssupplements such as StarCaps were suspended four games, the samepunishment for players who were caught using steroids or otherperformance-enhancing drugs.According to the union official, the NFL and Players Associationwould distinguish the offenses in the new policy and implement atwo-tiered system of discipline - two-game suspensions for testingpositive for diuretics; six games for testing positive forsteroids.Reducing Williams and Smith's suspensions to two games wouldbring their punishment in line with the more nuanced policy."We were hoping there would be a reduction but who knows?"Williams said today after practice at Winter Park. "I don't believeit's a done deal until it's done."Williams has plantar fasciitis in his left foot and has notpracticed since Saturday's preseason game at Seattle. He dismissedthe injury and vowed he would be on the field for the Vikings' opener against theChargers.Coach Leslie Frazier said Monday the team had not heard from theleague about Williams' suspension or how long it would be."I don't want to hear anything," he joked. "If I hear somethingin 2020, that'll be fine with me."In April, the Minnesota Supreme Court denied Pat Williams hisfinal appeal by declining to review a lower-court verdict thatexposed the Williamses to four-game suspensions after theyunsuccessfully sued the NFL under the state's drug-testinglaws.On May 6, 2010, Hennepin County Judge Gary Larson ruled the NFLviolated portions of the Drug and Alcohol Testing in the WorkplaceAct (DATWA) when it disciplined the Williamses. However, the judgesaid the league's actions did not harm the Williamses enough toreap damages, nor were the players entitled to a permanentinjunction barring suspension. The Williamses appealed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals, whichruled against them earlier this year. Kevin Williams bowed out ofthe case at that point, but Pat Williams elected to take the fightto the state's highest court, which shut him out.The Vikings did not re-sign PatWilliams, 38, who became a free agent this summer and wants tocontinue playing. The Williamses testified during their March 2010 trial that theyhad used StarCaps, a diuretic with bumetanide - a controlledsubstance the league and its Players Association classify as amasking agent for steroids - to lose weight and earn $400,000bonuses, a violation of their contracts. The league accused the Williamses of hiding behind DATWA, whichregulates how Minnesota employers inspect workers, instead ofaccepting punishment under the collectively bargained anti-dopingpolicy.The NFL argued its Policy on Anabolic Steroids and RelatedSubstances, which was negotiated by the league and the union, provided greater protections and fairer application than Minnesotalaw. But Larson ruled the league violated DATWA's three-day-noticeprovision. The Williamses, who were tested July 26, 2008, did notlearn about their results until late September and early October2008.Yet the Williamses testified the delay did not harm them, soLarson ruled they were not entitled to damages. Still, the judgescolded the NFL for its tactics. The league discovered in November 2006 that StarCaps was taintedwith bumetanide and opted not to punish about a dozen players whotested positive for the same banned substance as the Williamses, according to court records and testimony. At the time, the NFL reiterated warnings to players to avoid allweight-loss supplements, which are unregulated. But league vice president Adolpho Birch, who metes outpunishment under the policy, did not specifically caution againstusing StarCaps, nor did he reveal to the Players Association or theFood and Drug Administration what league scientists found inStarCaps.StarCaps was a precedent-setting case that wound its way throughfederal and state courts in Minnesota for two years. The U.S. Supreme Court last year declined the NFL's appeal onthe initial ruling that allowed the Williamses to sue the league inHennepin County.Other major sports leagues, including Major League Baseball, theNBA and the NHL, supported the NFL because they claimed theirdrug-testing programs were vulnerable to lawsuits by players whofailed tests in Minnesota and other states with more liberaldrug-testing laws.Smith and former New Orleans teammates Charles Grant and DeuceMcAlister tested positive for the same substance but were notinvolved in the Minnesota lawsuit. Grant and McAlister are out ofthe league. The NFL deferred enforcing Smith's four-game suspensionuntil the Minnesota case was resolved.Terms & Conditions |Privacy |Copyright |? 2009 LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
