Bucs finally end skid against Falcons
UpdatedSep 25, 2011 8:14 PM ETORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)Tom Brady's turnovers and an undisciplined New England teamultimately ended the Patriots eight-year winning streak over theBuffalo Bills. That also ruined Wes Welker's record-breaking day.Despite setting a league record for yards passing over athree-game stretch, Brady matched a career worst with fourinterceptions, and the Patriots committed eight penalties in a34-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills. It snapped New England's 15-gamewinning streak over the AFC East rival dating back to 2003.Brady threw interceptions on consecutive plays bridging the endof the second quarter and the start of the third, and his finalinterception was returned 27 yards for a touchdown by Buffalo'sDrayton Florence with 10:22 left. That came 14 seconds afterBuffalo's Fred Jackson tied the game at 24 with a 1-yardplunge.''They're a good coverage team, and they made some good plays inthe passing game,'' said Brady, who went 30 of 45 for 386 yards andfour scores. ''They took advantage of some opportunities that theygot. We fought to the end, but it just wasn't enough.''Welker had 16 catches for a franchise-record 217 yards and twoscores, but focused more on his team's inability to hang onto thefootball than his own production.''Pretty much it detracts everything,'' he said. ''We lost thegame. What should be a fun day of breaking records and doing allthose things, it's totally the opposite.''After watching his team squander a 21-point first-half lead,Brady was poised for yet another fourth-quarter comeback. Jacksonappeared to score on a 39-yard crossing route over the middle thatwould have given the Bills the lead with 1:43 left.Officials initially ruled Jackson got into the end zone beforeoverturning the call on video review. That wound up an advantage to the Bills, who ran down the clockby kneeling. The Patriots ran out of timeouts - and composure. Anunsportmanlike conduct penalty against Vince Wilfork gave Buffaloanother set of downs at the 1.''They got a good break,'' said Brady, who finished with fourinterceptions all last season. ''I wish (Jackson) would have wentinto the end zone, that would have given us a chance to get theball back. But he didn't ... the refs changed the call, and theyhad an opportunity to run the clock out and kick a field goal.Smart football.''Rian Lindell followed with a 28-yard field goal as time expiredto cap the stunning comeback. The win sparked a wild celebration inwhich stadium officials guarded the goal posts to ensure fansdidn't bring them down.As Lindell's kick sailed through the uprights, holder BrianMoorman jumped on Lindell's shoulders, and receiver David Nelsonwent running down the other end of the field pumping his fist.''When you can beat a team like that, it's definitely a step inthe right direction,'' Lindell said. The Bills (3-0) won courtesy of yet another Ryan Fitzpatrick-ledrally. It was reminiscent to what the Bills did in a 38-35 win overOakland a week earlier, when they scored touchdowns on their finalfive possession to overcome a 21-3 deficit. This time, they did it against their longtime nemesis.New England (2-1) had a 10-game regular-season winning stringended.''We turned the ball over four times,'' New England coach BillBelichick said. ''You don't win many games that way.''Though Brady led the Patriots back to tie the score at 31 on a6-yard touchdown pass to Welker - on fourth-and-goal, no less - theBills would not be denied.Dating to 1950, the Bills became the only team to overcomedeficits of at least 18 points to win in consecutive weeks, according to STATS LLC. In fact, only six teams have won twice inone season when trailing by 18 or more points. The last team to do so: the Patriots in 1996.This comeback started before halftime. Down 21-0, Fitzpatrickcapped a 96-yard drive by hitting Stevie Johnson for an 11-yardtouchdown. Brady's first interception came on the followingpossession, which led to Lindell's 42-yard field goal.Johnson had eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown forBuffalo. Tight end Scott Chandler also scored on a 3-yardcatch.It was a back-and-forth game featuring two of the NFL'stop-scoring teams. The Bills racked up 448 yards on offense and 24first downs. The Patriots were even more productive, finishing with495 yards offense and 30 first downs.Brady's 387 yards passing gave him 1,326 in three games. Thateclipsed the record of 1,257 set in 2006 by New Orleans QB DrewBrees. It was also Brady's 37th 300-yard career game, moving himinto ninth place, one ahead of John Elway.Brady's four touchdowns gave him 272, one short of tying JoeMontana for ninth place on the NFL list. The Patriots extended their franchise-record streak to 11 gamesof scoring 30 points or more, three short of matching the NFLrecord set by the St. Louis Rams in 1999-2000.

But he got the start and was 16-for-23 with 176 yards passing, no touchdowns and one interception before he left the game with 11 minutes left in regulation.Vick also had 31 yards rushing on seven attempts.

New Orleans Saints vs. Houston TexansUp until the 4th quarter, it looked like the Saints were letting their throwback uniforms go to their heads against the Texans. Costly interceptions and terrible defense were both hallmarks of the last Saints team to regularly wear the mustard yellow pants. But the new version of the Saints knows how to win and hopefully the upstart Texans were taking notes on how to take their game to the next level.Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams faced a dilemma as he game planned for the Texans. "To blitz or not to blitz" was the question. If you dont blitz, the Texans All-Pro WR Andre Johnson(notes) will get position against any DB. If you do blitz, then Johnson can take it to the house on man coverage. However, after going vanilla for most of the day, New Orleans starting blitzing in the 4th quarter which rattled Texans QB Matt Schaub(notes) considerably. For the New Orleans offense, it was more of the same. Although the Texans entered the game with the NFLs top-ranked defense, I knew Brees could light up the Texans if he had to. Except for a beautiful 30-yard TD run for Darren Sproles(notes), the Saints did most of the damage through the air for the third straight game. On the day, Brees torched the Texans at a 31-44 clip for 370 yards and 3 TDs.However, the story of the game was the 4th quarter. Trailing the Texans 26-17 early in the 4th quarter, Brees and the Saints offense took over. In doing so, the Saints outscored the Texans 23-7 the rest of the way. It was also fun watching the Saints successfully run their famous Drew Brees(notes)-to-Lance Moore Super Bowl two-point conversion twice in the 4th quarter. In fact, the Saints 4th quarter against the Texans was actually quite historic. It took me awhile to do the research, but in scoring 23 points in the 4th quarter, the Saints notched their highest final period output in quite a number of years. In fact, it was the most points posted by the Saints in the 4th quarter since a Christmas Eve game against the Indianapolis Colts in 1989! That day, New Orleans scored 24 points in the 4th quarter of a meaningless 41-6 win over the Colts.Looking ahead for the New Orleans SaintsAfter surviving a brutal three game stretch with a 2-1 record, the Saints will now be facing a somewhat easier part of their schedule. At the same time, New Orleans will be on the road for their next three games. However, with solid wins over the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans, the Saints should have momentum for their upcoming road trip.Sources"Houston at New Orleans," yahoo.com"Indianapolis Colts 6 at New Orleans Saints 41," pro-football-reference.comMore from this contributorThe NFL team most likely to improve in each conference in 2011The top 10 contenders to win Super Bowl 46Predicting the NFC Playoff teams for 2011Predicting the AFC Playoff teams for 2011Game summary of Super Bowl 48Note: This article was written by a Yahoo! contributor. Cedric Benson reportedly has an appeal hearing scheduled for Tuesday.(AP Photo) NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to discuss the matter and NFLPA spokesman George Atallah wrote in an e-mail, I dont believe any of those players received any discipline, correct? Atallah did not answer when pressed about whether the NFLPA agreed to the eight. So far, the league hasnt announced suspensions for any of the players. However, Benson reportedly has been notified that he will be suspended for three games pending next weeks appeal. Its unclear why Haggans was on the memo. Haggans is not known to have been arrested during the lockout and has no history of problematic behavior. A call to his agent, Jeff Sperbeck, was not immediately returned.Haynesworth was involved in an incident with a waitress in Washington D.C. in December, but that case was settled and it was reported in late August that the league would take no action against him. He was included among the eight because he hadnt been indicted until the lockout began, according to a source familiar with the circumstances. As for the other five, all were involved in incidents during the lockout, when the league had no operating agreement with the players and when some of the players werent even under contract. That begs the legal question of whether they can be disciplined by the league or whether a players association can agree to such discipline when its technically not a union. Numerous veteran players have contended that the league should not have the right to discipline the players. The league has repeatedly taken the stance that it will enforce the personal conduct policy, but was selective when it came to the agreement with the NFLPA. There were approximately 20 players arrested between March 12, when the lockout began, and late July, when the league and the players settled.Talib was arrested in March for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting outside his home in Dallas. Britt was arrested twice, although he settled the first case. Both have been summoned to New York to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and have been told they will not be disciplined at this time. Talib is set to go to trial in March 2012 and multiple sources have said that unless he is found not guilty or pleads to a much lesser offense, he will be suspended for at least four games by Goodell.[ Related: Roger Goodell overreaches with conduct policy ]As for the others, Jolly, who was charged with drug possession in the offseason, and Underwood are currently not playing. Underwood pleaded no contest Friday to a domestic disturbance charge involving his estranged wife. It was his second no contest plea in a little more than a year. The other involved a solicitation of prostitution charge at a Wisconsin resort in 2010. Jones, currently on the physically unable to perform list with the Bengals, is set for a November trial after an incident at a Cincinnati bar.Among players who were arrested or charged in the offseason who were not on the list were Hines Ward(notes), Mario Henderson(notes), Chris Cook(notes), Bryan McCann(notes), Jason Peters(notes), Louis Murphy(notes), William Moore(notes), Antwan Applewhite(notes), Alex Magee(notes), Garrett Wolfe(notes), Akeem Jordan(notes), Javarris James(notes) and Raheem Brock(notes).Other popular stories on Yahoo! For those of you standing up for Brady Quinn's quarterback triumphs at Notre Dame, as evidence to promise of being a top notch NFL quarterback keep dreaming. Quinn racked up numbers against low caliber teams who signed to play against prestigious Notre Dame and get a chance to be on NBC every Saturday. When playing the teams that supply the NFL with top notch talent, he wasn't all that brilliant. USC, Michigan, LSU and Ohio State all had their way with him. He may have put up big numbers, but he couldn't win big games. Quinn has gotten this far on hype, and Mangini bought in.Derek Anderson has all ready demonstrated his ability to lead the Browns, as shown by their playoff appearance, and his pro bowl appearance early in his career. You have to take into consideration that they made the playoffs with a wild card birth, and Derek made the pro bowl because Tom Brady didn't feel like it before he start thinking to highly of him.The real case here shouldn't be about any of the players, qb's included, but rather who is pulling the strings up top. If you want to win the NFL, you have to spend money on future talent, i.e. Jamal Lewis. Yeah, he probably had a couple 1,000 yard seasons left in him, but not behind the matadors they have playing on the offensive line. Mangini forgot something when he left New England, and unfortunately it was the key ingredient to Bellichek's system. The Patriots, in all their super bowl runs, had a smart tough line. Guys who could make decisions on the fly, week in and week out.I understand that these players are highly scoured by scouts in Foxboro, but are we really supposed to believe that they have every lineman of this mold in the league? Get someone that can hold a block from game one until the playoffs and give Quinn, Anderson, or as suggested Cribbs a chance to throw to someone besides the running back releasing out of the backfield. I didn't watch the game, there were more relevant contests taking place at the time, but for Quinn to complete 6 passes and only net 30 some odd yards, that had to be the case.Anderson was probably told, you've got nothing to worry about, heave it down field and try to make some plays we are down 20 points, but in his defense the line isn't holding long enough for the receivers to get down field. His hurried throws forced him to throw to whatever orange helmet he saw first, no matter how many raven's were surrounding it.Taking into account the fact he was down almost three touchdowns when entering the game, can you even compare Quinn and Anderson's performances? Obviously the play calling coming out after the half had to be different than it was to start the game. This may be giving the coach too much credit, but I'm guessing the running back that Quinn was dumping off to on the deep calls early was told to stay in and provide more inadequate protection so Anderson may have a chance to get the ball down the field against a defense that had also made halftime adjustments.Like I said, I didn't watch the game. Flipping to it, during commercial breaks of the regional game would better describe the attention I gave it, but if I can see this much in that little time, why can't the coach see it from the sidelines?
Sports Betting Wagers
The most popular of sports to place bets on are NFL and college football games along with NBA and NCAA basketball games. Within these sports, there are multiple betting opportunities that begin with the basic wager on a games outcome (also terming betting the side). Point spreads are used in both football and basketball to even the attractiveness of each team in a match up.Alternatively, you can simply bet on the money line or straight-up winner of the game. Oddmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on that of the underdog to balance the action on both sides. Money line gambling can be an attractive option for basketball and football bettors who only care about picking a winner. It is the main option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball or sports like boxing, NASCAR and tennis.Points (or Runs) Scored:An Over/Under total is another bet across all major team sports such as basketball, baseball and football which involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game. Example: If the Over/Under total on a Game was 48 - this means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined during that game. If the final score of the game was 24-21, the scoring of both teams add up to 4 which means the game went Under. So the bettors who bet under won and the bettors who bet over lost the bet.Future Bets:Sports' gambling doesn't just start and end here. Betting sides and totals are the most common of wagers but many sportsbooks offer future bets on big upcoming games like who will win the Super Bowl the next year and who will win a Grammy this year. The main advantage of future betting is you can get better odds by betting in advance. Example: with NFL futures you can often get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even begins. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl might be 20/1 preseason but by midseason their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be championship contenders.Proposition Bets (or Prop Bets):Proposition bets, focus on the more exotic aspects of a game that are widely televised. Proposition bets are popular when it comes to wagering on the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. For example: which team will win the coin toss or what player will score the first touchdown of the game.

Taking A Closer Look At How The System WorksIs John Morrison's Sports Betting Champ a scam? Well as a customer who have been following this system for almost 2 years, I personally haven't actually been recorded a high winning success of 97% as stated in his system but a little lower which is 94% in the NBA seasonal games and 93% in the MLB baseball games. Is this considered a scam to some of you because it isn't winning 97% of the time as written in their website?Perhaps you should do more research online and follow the picks from some of the professional sports gambling handicapping websites. You would find that there are many which are actually giving out free picks for sports betting. These free picks are only sent once or twice a week and more importantly, most of them do not win consistently and achieve a high winning percentage as sports betting champ does. So that's one of their marketing strategy because when you're asking for a much more accurate picks from them, you would have to pay 300~500 bucks EVERY YEARLY to get these precious picks because they would say that these picks are critically analyzed by their specialists and gotten from the 'insider' info. When you check out on many of the sports betting websites, you would reach a point that the insider info is actually something easily to get because almost all these sites claim that they have the insider infos. In the end which of these sites would you invest your money in?To tell you the truth, I've been paying and following the picks given by some of these paid sites. I definitely know which handicapping sports betting sites are good and reliable while which are lousy. But I won't be telling you to join these paid sites and there are 3 main reasons behind this. First of all, quite a number of these paid picks were high risk picks. High risk picks often easily affected by some inconsistency factors that are hard to predict and you would need to take up quite a certain level of risk in order to pick up a win. Secondly, based on my own records, they only achieve 50~70% of winning percentage averagely a season and thirdly, they are way too expensive compare to John Morrison's sports betting champ. Paying a higher amount of money while getting a lower accuracy of picks in return, do they worth your money? There's another point people would usually question about Sports Betting Champ. "If sports betting champ isn't a scam, how is it possible to achieve a 97% winning rate over the years?" Well it would be REALLY REALLY crazy if this system have played EVERY SINGLE the game in NBA and MLB and recorded a 97% winning rate. This system hasn't reached that kind of godlike state yet and if it does, it would definitely be charging you a few thousands dollars a year instead of a one-time $197 for lifetime! If you've read carefully in sportsbettingchamp.com, you would easily find that John Morrison only picks 60~80 games a season to play out of 2000 plus games! Many bettors who often lose do not understand about the benefits of playing low risks bets. This is because they do not calculate the risk and return properly before placing their bets. More than half of the 60~80 games we play for a season are low risk bets. That is the only reason why Sports betting champ can easily record a 97% winning rate. If you think that low risk bets could not make you big money, think again because now you're guaranteed to win 78~79 out of these 80 low risk games and how much do you think you can accumulate for the whole year with this amazing system? It is always about scaling in betting. If you want to make more money, put more money into it. I would not recommend anyone to bet more in any other system but for sports betting champ, you can do that with one condition- Only if you understand thoroughly how sports betting champ system works.Once again, if you do your research online, you should see that there are a lot of people using sports betting champ making tons of money everyday in sports betting particularly on NBA and MLB betting while there are also a portion of people who are not profiting much from this system. The next worse thing that happens is that some of those who are not making money thought that it isn't working as promised and immediately labeled it as a scam without bothered to look into the system in more detailed. My personal view is that Sports betting champ is a system that positions itself to make a total domination in the low risk NBA, MLB and NFL market. It is definitely not a scam product that promises a lot and offers nothing in return. Just look at the customer testimonial section of that site. Do you think anybody in this world would do video testimonials or write him emails and letters to thank him personally if sports betting champ is a scam product?I often think that those who are not making enough money from the system are either people who do not understand well the sports betting champ system or people who do not follow closely the picks sent by John Morrison. By following John Morrison's picks alone, you can actually make a lot of money by literally doing nothing in the whole NBA and NFL season and I'm not joking! I can't really imagine how it is possible anyone who're losing money by just following his email picks. It is just impossible.Lastly, if you're a NBA, MLB or NFL enthusiast bettor who are currently experiencing an unsatisfying betting record, it is time to change the way you bet. Learning from a proven winning system is the best and fastest way to get the results. I really advise you from the bottom of my heart to use sports betting champ. This system has actually helped a lot of people to make a living through betting. For me, sports betting has actually become my 2nd main income since using John Morrison's incredible sports betting champ and I've made $12k plus last year with it.Moreover, sports betting champ offers a 60 days full refund guarantee to all their customers. You have really nothing to lose investing in it, in fact, I would say that it would be a great loss to any of the sports bettor in the world who do not use it.
This article is meant to explore the impact of an increased workload on fantasy football running backs towards the end of the season. It is common knowledge that running backs tend to wear down as the season goes on. However, in the age of the running back by committee is this really true? What type of impact can we expect from an increased workload on an NFL running back?Going into the fantasy draft we tend to hear statements like: "player X averaged more than 600 carries over the past two years, so his body is likely to breakdown at some point in the season." While we have not explored the statistical validity of those types of statements my gut tells me there is some truth there. However, the question we are after is if the leagues leaders in carries breakdown or suffer any type of performance degradation toward the end of the current season. To answer this question we used a data set from the 2008 season containing the league leaders in carrier per game (CPG). We chose to use CPG over carries because the data set would then include players who eventually broke down due to injury. The assumption being that the high CPG contributed to their injury. Alongside CPG we then broke out the splits of avg yards per carry by month. Finally, we calculated a percent change between months and looked at the averages across each month. Note: LT and D.Williams were removed from the data set because they received a significant number of additional carries down the stretch due to a member of their RBBC going down to injury. Ced Benson was also removed as his statistics down the stretch were due to him becoming the primary ball carrier.Examining raw data that shows each running back's CPG and yards per game (YPG) per month shows averages per month for Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec were 4.29, 3.94, 4.41, 3.96. While one could argue for a slight decrease in production in December the results are for the most inconclusive.Looking at the data as a percent change from month to month we see a decrease in production of 5.5% from Sept->Oct, then an increase of 2.8% from Oct->Nov, and finally a decrease of 9.4% from Oct->Nov. Looking at the data from a percent change perspective appears to be considerably more meaningful. A near 10% drop in production going into the final month of the season is reason for concern.Taking a closer look at who is dragging down the group we see a -28.6% drop from Clinton Portis, a -32.7% drop from Steve Jackson, and a whopping -66.7% drop Marion Barber. These backs have the most physical running styles in the league and this is exactly the type of performance cliff you would expect to see from these types of players. It appears Chris Johnson's +36.6% and Michael Turner's +30% production from Nov->December are helping to offset the negative performance of their peers. In fact, this is exactly what we would expect. Those two backs are young and their bodies have not received the grueling exposure to NFL action like the older backs included in the analysis. If we remove Chris Johnson and Michael Turner from the analysis we see a -15.1% drop in production November->December.This data clearly shows a drop off in production towards the end of the season for the majority of the NFL's most utilized running backs. The analysis also hints that there is a carry over effect in that the leagues older running backs who have seen plenty of game action tend to wear down at a greater rate toward the end the season.

While Dr Al Fahim haggles with Sacha Gaydamak over the price (nothing to worry about; you view a house then you haggle over the price, don't you?), Portsmouth remain in limbo with the clock ticking down towards pre season. The collapse of the deal at this stage doesn't bear thinking about! So while we bite our fingernails and wait, let's talk about American Football. That's right, I want to talk about American Football. Although you'll see this is really about soccer (!) football. I went through a phase in the mid 80s of watching American Football every week. It was easy to do so as an eight year old boy because it was shown by way of a weekly highlights programme, Sunday evening on Channel 4. The host was Mick Luckhurst, a British guy who had made it big in the NFL as a kicker with the Atlanta Falcons. I think there was also a bearded fella called Nicky Horne who may have preceded Luckhurst, and later there was Gary Imlach. I was taken by the drama of it, but of course the game (short bursts of action separated by long interludes where the clock stops, meaning that a game with a playing time of an hour can go on for three) lends itself to this type of highlights package. Even now, live matches (apart from the Superbowl perhaps) would be a bit much. I will never buy a Sky subscription either, so the only way I will ever really watch it again is if the highlights format comes to Freeview. The Chicago Bears were my team by the way. They had William 'The Refrigerator' Perry and Walter Payton. They beat the New England Patriots to win the Superbowl for the first time in ages I think and have done pretty much nothing in the twenty-five years since! The Arsenal Chief Executive, Ivan Gazidis, recently called for a salary cap in an article in the Guardian. You can read it here. In it, he refers to the cap operated in American Football. The thing about American Football is that the team with the worst record in one particular year might turn it round the next to become top dogs. Why? A combination of the college draft system and the salary cap, probably. The draft system means that the worst teams get the first pick of the top college players, and the best have to wait until last. Now of course we don't have the same college (or University) sports system here, but we still used to have the situation where a promoted team team could go straight on and challenge for the league title the following season. Nottingham Forest achieved that under Brian Clough thirty years or so ago. Not only that, they immediately went on to win the European Cup twice in a row. Like the NFL today, they were only able to do that because our league was truly competitive. Today, it is not, and that is because money and greed is spiralling out of control. The NFL is rich, the players are paid more than most people could even dream of, and yet competition is equalised. The integrity of the product is maintained. I have no problem with players earning big salaries but things are getting obscene now. How much do they need? Manchester City have reportedly recently offered Samuel Eto'o £180,000 a week! £180,000 a year would be more than enough for him to pay for a bit of financial advice and be secure for the rest of his life. We're not even talking about sponsorship deals or image rights here! For now, we seem to be stuck with the model that sees TV money providing the main income for football clubs in this country. In turn, rich investors are attracted. But more of this money needs to go into improving club infrastructure and facilities, and nurturing young talent. Not into the pockets of established stars. The level of wages seems especially distasteful in the current economic climate, and although fans no longer pay the players' wages, the TV companies still pay to show games in full stadiums with a good atmosphere. Without the fans there would be no football.
Here we are after his poor lifestyle choices off of the field. Cost him his integrity his public image his freedom destroyed his reputation and cost him a130 million dollar contact. In his rise from beneath the ashes Michael Vick Has inked a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles returning him to the field after A 2007 NFL ruling left him looking at indefinite suspension.Michael Vick who was once the leagues highest paid player. Who had six 100 yard games from 2004 to 2006 102 games where he rushed for 10 or more yards. A three time Pro Bowler. So Michael Vick is a very gifted player. Who is now in the position to be on the field with another elite quarterback who has Achieved his own greatest.Donovan Mc Nabb who has led his team to 5 NFL championships. And a appearance in the Super Bowl .So this is not your everyday NFL situation here. If my opinion counts for anything just having two player of this caliber on the same team could well possibly lead to a raising of the bar in the quarterback position and for the game of professional football as we know itThe local NAACP chapter will be out to support Michael Vick. Just as animal right activists are set to protest Vick's being allowed to play. If I can touch on this angle Michael Vick was not held in account for his misdeeds to the extent of baseball great Pete Rose who now after some 20 years was allowed to stand smile and raise his hat above his head and smile for the cameras as in his Big Red Machine days.Folks there is no equality in being held accountable for your actions . People are not a forgiving sort by nature. And public opinion can be like lethal injection. Mankind suffers from a plague of vises and demons which take from time to time. It is Michael Vick today but when you wake up in the morning it will be in new name in the hot seat. At their news conference offering their plea For yours and my forgiveness.

That willput added pressure on left tackle Jonathan Scott and right tackleMarcus Gilbert, who is set to make his second career start."When you have to use silent count, they can get off the balland they're basically like linebackers that are big and strong,"Roethlisberger said of Freeney and Mathis. "I've got faith in ourtackles and our tight ends, whoever is on them. Those ends aregoing to win some (battles), but we're going to win some, too."?? Nose tackle Casey Hampton said he was not making excuses whenhe answered questions about the Ravens cut-blocking him in theseason opener. Hampton sounded off after being asked if the SeattleSeahawks chop-blocked less."That chop-blocking stuff, man, we got beat," Hampton said ofthe loss to the Ravens. Skins vow to take target practice on Romo;QB's ribs on the menu for Hall, Orakpo in Cowboys' home
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 12:26 AM ETTony Romo's ribs have spiced up the rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. At least one Redskins player admitted he mentally painted abull's-eye on Romo's jersey when he learned the Cowboys quarterback suffered afractured rib last week.Cornerback DeAngelo Hall on Wednesday said he's hoping Romo gutsit out and plays when the NFC East rivals square off in the Cowboys' home opener on Mondaynight."Absolutely. I want to get a chance to try to put my helmet onwhatever's hurt," Hall told reporters in Ashburn, Va. "Romo's ribs- I'm going to be asking for some corner blitzes."Hall also made it clear the injured shoulder of Dallas runningback Felix Jones will be another target."I'm not going to cut him," Hall said. "I'm going to try to hithim up high."That's just part of it. If you know something's wrong with anopponent, you're going to try to target in on that. We're going totry to get as many hats on those guys as possible."The Cowboys (1-1) were off Wednesday, but coach Jason Garrett said in a conference call with reporterswho cover the Redskins (2-0) he remains optimistic Romo willplay.Romo also suffered a punctured lung when a 49ers linebacker hithim in the pocket on the third play of Sunday's 27-24 overtime win.He was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after passing for345 yards and two touchdowns in San Francisco.Garrett stays positive"He's doing fine," Garrett said. "He got knocked around a littlebit Sunday, but he's getting his rehab, and hopefully he'll beready. We'll take it day to day, the next few days."Other Dallas starters in the training room include center PhilCosta (knee) and receivers Miles Austin (hamstring) and Dez Bryant(thigh). Garrett didn't discuss their status, but it would not besurprising if either misses or has limited participation in today'spractice.Hall wasn't the only Redskins defender talking about Romo'svulnerability Wednesday."If somebody gets injured, you want to go after that injury,"Pro Bowl outside linebacker and Lamar High product Brian Orakposaid on a conference call with Cowboys reporters. Not going overboard"But we're going to just play our game. We're going to try toget Romo down when we can. We're not going to just target the ribsand forget about trying to get the ball out or forget about tryingto get him down and just hit his ribs. Nah, we're going to do thebest we can to get him down and get off the field."Hall didn't try to mask his intentions. Asked if Romo shouldjust go ahead and put a target on his ribs, Hall said, "He ain'tgot to. I already know where it is. ... I'll find it. GIANTS REPORT CARD
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 12:27 AM ETRunning game: CThe Giants rushed for 119 yards, butonly 3.1 yards per carry. Although Ahmad Bradshaw (59 yards on 15attempts) looked impressive on the doomed first drive, he latercould not find the rhythm that allowed him to push the Giants inside the Rams' 40-yard linebefore an Eli Manning interception. The offensive line also failedto execute a fourth-and-1 late in the fourth quarter, angeringcoach Tom Coughlin.Passing game: CStop yelling for a moment and listen. It deserves a C. Yes, EliManning began 2-for-11 for just 19 yards. Yes, he threw anothercostly interception. But he did finish by completing 16 of hisfinal 18 passes for 181 yards. He did have two touchdown passes. And he did it without his No. 2 and No. 3 receivers - MarioManningham and Domenik Hixon - in the second half. And thoughHakeem Nicks looked good, he still was slowed by the bone bruise inhis knee. New acquisition Brandon Stokley arrived too late in theweek to make his presence felt.Run defense: AThe Giants limited Cadillac WiIliams to36 yards and 2.8 yards per carry. The Rams rushed for just 59 yardsand 3.1 yards per attempt. Opposing teams have not been able todevelop any kind of rhythm against the Giants' front seven. Not bad for ateam that still does not have Osi Umenyiora and is starting arookie at middle linebacker in Greg Jones.Pass defense: DSam Bradford is an impressive young quarterback. But once again,a quarterback tore up the Giants secondary for 300-plus yards(Bradford threw for 331). He completed 10 passes for 17 yards ormore. The Giants might be sitting 0-2 headinginto Philadelphia had Williams decided to chase Bradford's passbehind the line of scrimmage that Michael Boley returned 65 yardsfor a touchdown, changing the complexion of the game. Coughlinclearly was frustrated with cornerback Aaron Ross, who he benchedin the second half - well, until Bradford began picking on cornerMichael Coe, forcing Ross' return. The only reason this is not an Fis the Giants held Bradford to a completionpercentage below 50 percent (22-of-46).Special teams: B-Dave Tollefson showed how valuable he is, forcing a fumble andrecovering another on special teams. The Giants did allow a 29-yard puntreturn and a 32-yard kickoff return, due largely to poor tackling. But Devin Thomas averaged 25.5 yards on two kick returns, and SteveWeatherford averaged a net of 39 yards per punt. It's hard tocomplain about that, considering it's the Giants special teams.Coaching: BThe team was clearly taken by surprise when the Rams operatedout of the no-huddle. But Coughlin won two big challenges and wasable to get Manning turned around to guide the Giants to victory. He also was ableto minimize the damage allowed by the porous secondary and did notallow Steve Spagnuolo's defensive schemes to lead to multipleturnovers.-- Jeff Roberts
Good times beget bad times for joyful but injured Jones;Texans receiver hurt celebrating Johnson's
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 12:26 AM ETWeek 3Texans at SaintsNoon SundayTV/radio: CBS; 610 AM, 100.3 FM, 1010 AM (Spanish)Don't expect any celebrations from Jacoby Jones in thefuture. The Texans wide receiver injured hisleft knee in Sunday's 23-13 victory over the Dolphins, causingJones to sit out practice Wednesday at Methodist Training Center. The cause of the injury? Leaping into the air to bump hips withAndre Johnson following Johnson's fourth-quarter touchdown thatprovided the visitors some separation.Jones insisted he'd be fine, saying his body "heals likeWolverine," while calling the injury just a bruise. He said he believes he will play Sunday at New Orleans, hishometown, and doesn't think he'll make the same mistake twice."Being too excited, messing with Dre when he scored," Jones saidWednesday. "Things happen. It's a good thing it's not worse than itcould have been. ? Everybody's like, 'No more celebrating for you,'and I say, 'I think I'm going to take your word for it.'"I'll just give them a head nod, a pat on the head, and walk tothe sideline."Texans coach Gary Kubiak wasn'tnearly as colorful in his account of Jones' injury, but he toosuspects the wide receiver will be a go against the Saints."Banged his knee, swole up on him," Kubiak said. "We drained it,drained it again today, so it could be end of the week before he'sback out here. We think he'll be OK, but just (his) knee swole upon him."Walter could be backWithout Jones, the Texans' wide receiver corps wouldhave been dangerously thin, but Kubiak welcomed Kevin Walter backto practice Wednesday. Sidelined with a bruised shoulder sufferedin the season opener against Indianapolis - an injury so painfulthe veteran said he could barely lift his right arm above his headlast week - Walter said he was stunned to hear and read publishedreports that he might miss 12-14 weeks. He was stunned he didn't play last weekend against Miami, whichis why it's little surprise that Walter said he'd be on the fieldSunday "no matter what.""It's a little sore, but it's something you have to playthrough," Walter said. "They'll probably have to numb it up Sunday, but it is what it is. I'm going to have a pad on there to protectit and play through it."Cornerback Johnathan Joseph gutted his way through the secondhalf of the Dolphins victory, going in and out of the lineupbecause of an ankle ailment. But he worked Wednesday and was deemed"fine" by Kubiak.Running backs Arian Foster and Derrick Ward weren't nearly asfortunate. Foster re-aggravated his left hamstring in the firsthalf against the Dolphins, and Ward, who was knocked out of actionagainst the Colts, revealed Wednesday he has a high anklesprain.Thin at running backKubiak isn't certain of either of their statuses for Sunday. They're currently atop the depth chart, but if they can't go, thestart will be given to Ben Tate, who has rushed for 100-plus yardsin his first two NFL starts, just the 11th player to do so. SteveSlaton would back him up, giving the Texans just two running backs -unless Chris Ogbonnaya is promoted from the practice squad, whichKubiak said Wednesday was a possibility."You can play a game with two guys," Kubiak said. "You don'tlike two. You'd like to suit up three, but we'll see. We'll seewhere Arian's at."Foster finally sounds as if he's prepared to wait."I'll take it day by day, mainly keeping it more and morehealthy until I feel it's 100 percent," he said. "I'm a competitor, and I want to play. I want to help this team win ballgames. This isone of those injuries ? you can't push through it. The more youpush, the worse it gets. It's just tough for a competitiveperson."Foster couldn't say when he'd be back on the field, but he knowshe'll be back."It's going to get healed - it's only Game 2," Foster said. "Iwant to be out there with my team, but this team is looking toadvance further than we have before. I want to make sure I'mhealthy for the right stretch."jeffrey.martin@chron.comwww.twitter.com/JayMartOfficial Cincinnati Bengals Jersey, Premier Jason Witten Jersey Black, Authentic Jay Cutler Jersey Orange, Reebok Atlanta Falcons Jersey, Premier Jason Witten Jersey, Replica Jason Witten Jersey, Authentic Jason Witten Jersey Blue, Bengals Jersey, Authentic Jason Witten Jersey White, Jason Witten Premier Jersey, Authentic Cincinnati Bengals Jersey, Jason Witten Jersey Replica, Falcons Jersey, Authentic Jay Cutler Jersey Red, Jason Witten Replica Jersey, Jason Witten Jersey Premier, Authentic Atlanta Falcons Jersey, Official Atlanta Falcons Jersey, Reebok Cincinnati Bengals Jersey, Authentic Jay Cutler Jersey Blue
NEW SHOCKER AT STADIUM AS GAGA TAKES A SPILL
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 12:27 AM ETNo one called a penalty for illegal use of hands when footballfans were patted down as they entered MetLife Stadium for a Giantsgame on Monday night. After all, this was eight days after aCowboys fan walked in the door with a stun gun for a Jets game. But tightened security can do only so much.In her luxury box to watch the Giants beat the St. Louis Rams,Lady Gaga displayed a weapon that eluded security experts. She wielded a champagne glass. And, yes, you guessed it: Gaga is apparently dangerous if theglass is loaded. Not wanting to guzzle every last drop, Gaga, who wore a blueGiants cap, a foil-like silver dress and black sunglasses for thenighttime contest, turned her glass upside down. Some fans say the bubbly dripped over the rail and onto asection of the stadium reserved for disabled fans.Rest easy -- this isn't the biggest spill since the BP oil rigexploded in the Gulf of Mexico. But it may be the biggest buzz tocome from MetLife Stadium so far this year.Three days have passed and it still cannot be determined withcomplete certainty whether any fans - disabled or otherwise -actually got wet from Gaga.Gaga imposed a gag order on herself and did not talk. ButMetLife stadium went to work in her defense. In a statement released through a public relations firm, thestadium's president and CEO, Mark Lamping, questioned the accuracyof the alleged champagne drip - and the media's apparent gleefulresponse at the possibility of catching a pop star known forridiculous behavior on stage doing something ridiculous in reallife."A report claiming that Lady Gaga poured champagne over therailing of a suite at MetLife Stadium while attending [Monday's]game appears to be an inaccurate portrayal of her actions, based onconversations with those present in the area," Lamping said. "As aguest in the suite, Lady Gaga celebrated with champagne, but neverpoured her drink outside of the suite."But what about the photo showing Gaga turning a champagne glassupside-down and clear liquid arcing downward? Where did it go?"In the row in front of her in the suite," a spokeswomansaid. Not on the disabled fans? Or even onto the empty sectionreserved for the disabled?"She didn't pour it over the rail."OK. Maybe Gaga, who was known as Stefani Germanotta before shebecame a musical lady, apparently knows her limits. This brings us to the continuing adventures of Larry McKelvey,Cowboys fan and stun gun owner. For a game at MetLife Stadium on the 10th anniversary of the9/11 attacks, McKelvey, 59, of Moncks Corner, S.C., decided tocombine his two interests.McKelvey managed to get through security with his stun gun. Buthe never made it past the national anthem.McKelvey, who was wearing a Cowboys jersey, did not stand forthe singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and instead talked on hiscellphone. Needless to say, Jets fans noticed. And, as Jets fans usually do when they seesomething they don't like, they opened their mouths and respondedto the emotional pull of the moment.A tussle reportedly ensued. McKelvey reportedly pulled his stungun -- and ended up facing three counts of aggravated assault andtwo weapons charges. A Wednesday court appearance in Hackensack forMcKelvey, who is free on $22,500 bail, was postponed. His lawyer claims that Jets fans shouted racial slurs atMcKelvey, who is black. Maybe so.They should have just yelled, "Hey stupid."Who brings a stun gun to a football game?Memo to Cowboys fans with stun guns: Next time, try champagne. The lady in the luxury box may have some left over.E-mail: kellym@northjersey.com Blog: northjersey.com/kellyCheap Packers Jerseys, Authentic Jason Witten Jersey, Official Detroit Lions Jersey, Jason Witten Authentic Jersey, Authentic Chad Ochocinco Jersey, Jason Witten Jersey Blue, Jason Witten Jersey Authentic, Authentic Chad Ochocinco Jersey, Official Jason Witten Jersey, Lions Jersey, Chad Ochocinco Authentic Jersey, Authentic Detroit Lions Jersey, NFL Packers Jerseys, Cheap Chad Ochocinco Jersey, Detroit Lions Jersey, Jason Witten Jersey , Chad Ochocinco Jersey Authentic, Packers Jersey, Packers Jerseys, Chad Ochocinco Jersey Outlet
In search of a way to defeat elite QBs;49ers
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 6:26 AM ETThe defensive coordinator is new, the personnel is different andthe results, so far, have been similar for the 49ers' secondary.A year after top-end NFL quarterbacks went from elite tootherworldly when facing San Francisco, Cowboys quarterback TonyRomo morphed into Joe Montana. In the final 14 minutes of Sunday's game, Romo, playing with abroken rib and a collapsed lung, completed 11 of 14 passes for 185yards to lead Dallas to a come-from-behind 27-24 overtimevictory. On Thursday, first-year defensive coordinator Vic Fangioexplained the torching of San Francisco's secondary in blunt terms:Romo was better than the defensive backfield."For the most part it was they threw and caught it better thanwe defended it," Fangio said. "That's a very good passing game, very good quarterback. He's got good weapons to throw to, and theythrew it and caught it better than we defended it. It wasn't thatthere were a lot of breakdowns."Granted, it was just one game. But Sunday's script was similarto 2010, when San Francisco went 1-6 and was outscored 177-93 ingames against quarterbacks who finished the season ranked among theNFL's top 16 in passer rating. Those seven quarterbacks, who had a combined rating of 94.3 lastyear, reached another level against the 49ers. The numbers: 152-of-225 68percent for 1,854 yards with 15 touchdowns, four interceptions anda 107.5 rating. In the offseason, the Niners added cornerback Carlos Rogers andsafeties Donte Whitner and Madieu Williams. On Sunday, however, thenew guys were culpable in two of Dallas' biggest plays. On Romo's 25-yard, fourth-quarter scoring toss to Miles Austin,Williams took a poor angle and missed Austin and the ball. Inovertime, Rogers and Whitner both bit on a play-action fake andRomo threw a 77-yard pass to Jesse Holley to set up thegame-winning field goal."We didn't play it correctly," Fangio said of Holley's catch."We got our eyes in the wrong place and obviously the result iswhat you saw up there."The results could be better against the Bengals on Sunday.Starting safety Dashon Goldson, who hasn't played this seasonbecause of a knee injury, will make his 2011 debut. In addition, cornerback Shawntae Spencer will have an expanded role after beinglimited in the first two games by a hamstring injury. In 2010, quarterbacks compiled a rating of at least 94.4 in 11of 16 games against the Niners. The other five included theRaiders' Jason Campbell and Arizona's John Skelton and DerekAnderson. In Week 1 this season, San Francisco held up against Seattle'sTarvaris Jackson 78.3.On Sunday, they'll face Bengals rookie Andy Dalton, who hasthrown three touchdowns, no interceptions and ranks eighth in theNFL in passer rating 105.7.Fangio said Dalton already looks like a good NFLquarterback.Unless the Niners reverse a recent trend, the rookie might lookeven better Sunday."We didn't play it correctly. We got our eyes in the wrong placeand obviously the result is what you saw up there."Vic Fangio, 49ers defensive coordinator UpdatedSep 23, 2011 6:25 AM ETBy JOE SMITHTimes Staff WriterTAMPA - Bucs veteran CB Ronde Barberacknowledges there likely will be times Sunday when his job willcall for him to cover Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez. It's an unenviable task for anyone, as Gonzalez, in his 15thseason, ranks fifth on the NFL's all-time receptions list (1,081),having racked up 11 Pro Bowl selections."He's hell to deal with," said Barber, a five-time Pro Bowlselection, also in his 15th season. "As he's gotten older, he'sgotten smarter, I think. He definitely runs his routes a littlebetter. He's a great player - the best I've ever played against atthe position."Gonzalez boasts a unique blend of size (6 feet 5, 247 pounds),speed and savvy at the tight end position, and he has fared wellagainst the Bucs over his career: 45 catches for470 yards in seven games.Bucs coach Raheem Morris said gamesituations will dictate how often Barber (5-10, 184) matches upwith Gonzalez, most likely in nickel packages or in the red zone. But it won't be a one-man job."Gonzalez is a Hall of Fame tight end, and he's going to find away to get open no matter who I put on him," defensive backs coachJimmy Lake said. "Put a corner on him, put a linebacker, or put(rookie DE Adrian) Clayborn on him, he's going to find a way to getopen."Morris said: "He's going to run his routes, use a legalpush-off, and he's going to catch the ball. He's mastered the art. He's the best at what he does. "The Falcons already have a lot of offensive weapons, withAll-Pro WR Roddy White, first-round pick WR Julio Jones and All-ProRB Michael Turner. White said Gonzalez makes them all better."It helps tremendously," White said. "Any time you get a guylike that who catches everything and can open up the middle of thefield, he demands double coverage and things like that (make it) somuch easier to get one-on-ones on the outside."Blacked out: Tickets still remained for the game, so the Bucs will be blacked out on local TVfor the 10th straight regular-season home game.TALK IT UP: Rookie MLB Mason Foster will be the only voice inthe Bucs' defensive huddle against theFalcons.Foster, who took over the play-calling duties when strongside LBQuincy Black missed the second half of the 24-20 win at Minnesotawith an ankle injury, will wear the helmet transmitter if Blackdoesn't play. That formula worked at Minnesota as the defense limited theVikings to 114 yards in the second half with Foster calling theplays."Mason will call the plays if Quincy doesn't go," Morris saidThursday. "He's not that deficient. I was just trying to takesomething off his plate. Mason is sharp, smart. Mason is dying toget the green thing (transmitter) in his helmet anyway. He wantsall the information. He's doing well."He probably could've done it from the beginning. I just made iteasy for him. He'll play all situations this week. He'll get achance to be out there in nickel, he'll be in two-minute, he'll bein base. "STEPPING IN: If Black can't play, LB Dekoda Watson welcomes thechallenge of making his second NFL start, filling in on the strongside. "It's just an opportunity right now, just got to make themost of it," Watson said. "Coaches are confident enough if Quincydon't make it back, put me in. And as a second-team player, oranybody like that, you've got to step up as a starter. I've got toprepare and go in there and not be a weak link."Times staff writers Rick Stroud and Stephen F. Ex-tackle Orlando Brown found dead at home at 40
UpdatedSep 23, 2011 5:34 PM ETBALTIMORE (AP)Orlando ''Zeus'' Brown, the 360-pound tackle who in 1999 wasaccidentally hit in the eye with a penalty flag and missed threeseasons because of the damage it caused, was found dead at hisBaltimore home. He was 40.Firefighters were called about 11 a.m. Friday because Brown wasunresponsive at his home near the Inner Harbor, fire spokesmanBattalion Chief Kevin Cartwright said. He said Brown was dead whenfirefighters arrived. The cause of death wasn't known.Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said firefighters calledpolice, routine procedure in such cases. He said there were nosigns of trauma or suspicious activity.Brown, a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle, played 10 NFL seasons - fourwith the Cleveland Browns (1993-95 and 1999) and six with theBaltimore Ravens (1996-98 and 2003-05). He started 119 of his 129games.Brown will be remembered for the game between Cleveland andJacksonville a dozen years ago when the massive tackle was struckin the right eye by a weighted penalty flag thrown by official JeffTriplette. Brown stormed on the field and pushed Triplette, drawinga suspension.Brown, whose father was blind from glaucoma, said concern forhis eyesight caused him to confront Triplette. Brown washospitalized for six days with bleeding behind the eye. He sued theNFL for $200 million, settling the lawsuit for $25 million. He missed the next three seasons because of the injury, returning to football and the Ravens for the 2003 season. TheRavens learned of Brown's death during practice.''Everybody knew what he meant to this organization,'' Ravenscoach John Harbaugh said. ''We're forever grateful for what he didfor the present team. We can't express enough sorrow for hisloss.''Ravens director of player development Harry Swayne, Brown'sformer teammate and fellow tackle, called Brown ''a big old puppydog with a little bit of a bark.''''He had a lot of friends around the league,'' he added. ''Hewas one of the best guys. It's a tough loss.''Browns tackle Tony Pashos played three seasons in Baltimore withBrown.''He was a really good teammate,'' Pashos said. ''I came inunder him as a backup. Even when Zeus wasn't on the team he camearound and supported us. He loved us. He loved football. He couldnever walk away. Man, I can't believe it.''''I remember the attitude he brought to the building to theroom,'' he added. ''He tried hard. He told the young guysthroughout practice to try hard and work on technique but then whenit comes to games, it's about taking the other guy's will. And hewas the apex of that. He did do that.''Former Ravens coach Brian Billick said Brown will always be oneof his favorites.''He brought such passion and physicality to practices andgames,'' Billick said in a statement released by the Ravens.''There is no way to quantify his heart, his actual love to playfootball. The game was so important to him.''New England coach Bill Belichick, too, was shocked by the deathof Brown, whom he signed and coached for three years withCleveland.''Orlando improved as a player as much as anyone I have everseen, as he went from being a defensive lineman at South CarolinaState to becoming one of the game's top offensive tackles, when hesustained his unfortunate eye injury,'' Belichick said in astatement. ''Orlando was a true throwback player who loved footballand was as tough as they come.''Brown was a frequent visitor to the Ravens' practices, tutoringyoung linemen Jah Reid and Ramon Harewood.''He took time out of his busy schedule over the last couple ofmonths to work with me to help me grow as a player,'' Harewoodsaid. ''To have a player and man of his stature do that for a youngplayer like myself says all you need to know about him.''Brown was born in Washington and played in college at CentralState in Ohio and South Carolina State. He was divorced and is survived by three sons.Jay Cutler Jersey Orange, Authentic NBA shop, Reebok Devin Hester Jersey, Devin Hester Stitched Jersey, Devin Hester Jersey Youth, Jay Cutler Jersey 6, Sports Jerseys, Official MLB Store, Jay Cutler Throwback Jersey, Official NFL Shop, Jay Cutler Jersey Blue, Devin Hester Throwback Jersey, Devin Hester Jersey Womens, Devin Hester Jersey Blue, NFL Devin Hester Jersey, Devin Hester Jersey White, Jay Cutler Jersey Womens, Jay Cutler Jersey White, Devin Hester Jersey 23
