ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Oft-injured receiver Malcolm Kelly has been released by the Washington Redskins.Kelly received an injury settlement Tuesday as the Redskins made the first round of cuts to get the roster down to 80 players.Kelly was a second-round pick from Oklahoma in 2008, but he was slowed by knee and ankle injuries his rookie season and missed all of last year with a pulled hamstring. This year, Kelly has been sidelined since the first week of training camp with an injured right foot. He did not play in the first three preseason games.Kelly appeared in only 21 games for the Redskins, catching 28 passes for 365 yards and no touchdowns. Long snapper David Binn lost his competition with Mike Windt and was released by San Diego. Binn is nearly a San Diego institution -- no Charger has played more games than Binn. But he missed last season with a hamstring injury and the Chargers ran through four other long snappers trying to replace him. Binn is healthy, but the Chargers brought back Windt to compete for the job."This was a hard decision; one of our most difficult," said general manager A.J. Smith. David has been the ultimate professional. He???s a team-first guy and a perfectionist at his craft. His hard work and dedication made him one of the best long snappers ever to play the game."He was the only one of 10 players released by the team Tuesday who has played in a regular-season game for the team."I've known David since he came to the Chargers as an unknown long snapper in 1994, our Super Bowl season, and getting to know David has been a privilege," Chargers President Dean Spanos said. "David has been the consummate Charger; everything we want in a player and a person. The Chargers are fortunate to have had David. I???m definitely going to miss him around here."Copyright (C) 2011 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. Here's what I say to that: Data be damned. Take a look at some of what we have. ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Matt Clapp plopped down in a seat Tuesday morning and saw an empty spot next to him. He was suddenly the only fullback on the Detroit roster. The Lions cut Jerome Felton - a surprise to Clapp, since Felton had started 16 games over three seasons and played in 42, primarily as a blocking back and a key contributor on special teams."It caught me off guard," Clapp said.Detroit drafted Felton in the fifth round in 2008 from Furman. Felton had 39 career carries for 126 yards and 30 receptions for 240 yards.Even though the 6-foot, 246-pound Felton had been relatively valuable in the past, his role had dwindled in an offense that features tight ends with the ability to line up in the backfield at times."Our fullback position has been deemphasized," Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said. "We're using different people in those roles. It's where we are as an offense."Detroit can put up to three tight ends on the field for a play. It can line up Brandon Pettigrew or Tony Scheffler in a traditional stance next to an offensive tackle, putting the other out wide and moving Will Heller into the backfield in a fullback-like position.Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has a lot of options with formations and many of them don't include an old-school fullback."Jerome is a great player who will be fine wherever he ends up, but Scott likes to use tight ends in a variety of roles," Heller said.Clapp, of course, hopes there's room on the roster for him. The former Oklahoma Sooner split time on practice squads in New Orleans and Indianapolis last season after Detroit signed and released the undrafted rookie."Being the only fullback here, It just makes me want to work even harder to secure a spot," Clapp said. "I just have to keep bringing my lunch pail every day and have a good game on Thursday at Buffalo."Notes: The Lions expect to play RB Jahvid Best against the Bills. He hasn't played since leaving the second preseason game with a concussion. ... WR Nate Burleson (elbow), DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (shoulder), RB Maurice Morris (hand), DT Nick Fairley (foot), OT Jason Fox (foot) and CB Alphonso Smith (foot) have been ruled out for the preseason finale. (AP) - Buffalo Bills receiver Felton Huggins is out indefinitely after sustaining a concussion.Coach Chan Gailey provided the update Tuesday, a day after Huggins was hurt. His injury further depletes the Bills group of receivers for the team's final preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday. The Bills are already down three receivers, including Roscoe Parrish (hamstring), who resumed practicing this week.Quarterback/receiver Brad Smith returned to practice a day after being sidelined with a foot injury. Gailey said Smith won't play quarterback but could get time at receiver against the Lions.Gailey said linebacker Shawne Merriman will play after missing the past two preseason games with a groin injury. Defensive lineman Kyle Williams has been ruled out to rest for Buffalo's regular season-opener at Kansas City on Sept. 11. Eli Manning. Who else? Burress and Manning, who hooked up for the game-winning score in Super Bowl XLII when they were teammates with the New York Giants, were able to catch up and chat for a bit, Burress said Monday night after his New York Jets beat Manning's Giants 17-3 in a preseason game at MetLife Stadium.[+] EnlargeJim McIsaac/Getty ImagesEli Manning and Plaxico Burress caught up again after Monday night's game."It was him and Shaun O'Hara," said Burress, who was at the theater with his family. "We talked for a little while."It's good for me and (Eli) to have some laughs out there after the game and joke around a little bit." Much was made of Manning not seeing Burress when the 34-year-old wide receiver visited the Giants practice facility on July 29. The Giants were serious about signing Burress, then a free agent, but he instead decided to sign with the rival Jets. Burress, however, wasn't upset that he never saw Manning that day. "No. No. Not really. I didn't even know if he was in the building or not," Burress said. "I didn't see a few guys, but I didn't take anything to heart about it or anything like that." Burress was highly complementary of his former quarterback on Monday night. "He's a phenomenal talent," Burress said of Manning. "I think the sky's the limit and I think he's gonna keep getting better and better as time goes on." New York Jets: Training campHere's all your news from Jets camp:Jets Center Blog Photos Before Monday night's game, Burress had a chance to shake hands with and talk to Giants owner John Mara, among others."I saw those guys a few weeks ago, and it's just good to get out there and see them before warmups," Burress said. "Everybody's been supporting me and wanting me to do well and wishing me good luck." Burress said there's no hard feelings between him and the Giants' organization. "It's just good to have the support," Burress said. "We did some great things while I was over there. It's just good to have everybody's supporting me and wishing me well." Burress said he'll be "ready" for the season opener. He missed the first two weeks of practice and the Jets' preseason opener with an ankle injury. Burress did not have any catches on Monday night despite being targeted four times. "I have no idea, you'd have to ask them," Jets head coach Rex Ryan replied when asked if the Giants game-planned to try and negate Burress. Manning wasn't asked about Burress on Monday night, but said it wouldn't be "weird" to see him on the opposing sideline earlier in the week. "I don't think it will be weird," Manning said. "If you play in this league long enough you will play against some teammates. He was a great teammate for the Giants, we had a great run together, but things happened and obviously he is with the Jets now and playing well so I am happy for him." New York Giants: Training campHere's all your news from Giants camp:Giants Center Blog Photos "I haven't seen him in a long time so I am looking forward to seeing him before or after the game," Manning added. Several Giants had campaigned for the team to re-sign Burress, who wound up taking a full guaranteed one-year deal from the Jets worth $3.017 million. Burress visited with Giants brass including head coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese, but never saw Manning, who was in a meeting. Manning made it clear that signing Burress was a management decision and he did not want to offend his teammates by campaigning for Burress. Manning said he spoke with Burress by phone after he was released from prison, but never made it to see him while Burress spent 20 months there. "I thought about it a few times," Manning said. "It just never worked out. Just one of those deals. As soon as he got out, called him a few weeks after and just talked to him for a little bit. It sounded like he learned a lot and it changed his life." cheap Richard Seymour Jersey, Replica Richard Seymour Jersey White, Devery Henderson Jersey On sale, Richard Seymour Jersey Free shipping, Cowboys Miles Austin Premier Jersey, NFL Miles Austin Jersey, Devery Henderson Jersey Free shipping, Cowboys Miles Austin Jersey, Premier Miles Austin Jersey Black, Cowboys Miles Austin Authentic Jersey, Authentic Miles Austin Jersey White, Miles Austin Jersey 19, Authentic Miles Austin Jersey Black, cheap Devery Henderson Jersey, Richard Seymour Jersey On sale, Replica Devery Henderson Jersey White, Miles Austin Stitched Jersey, Authentic Miles Austin Jersey Blue, Miles Austin Jersey Womens, Devery Henderson Jersey Outlet, Richard Seymour Jersey Outlet, Cowboys Miles Austin Replica Jersey

So, no, Namath isn't swept up in Plaxico Mania, saying Burress would be "damn lucky" if he makes it through the season.New York Jets: Training campHere's all your news from Jets camp:Jets Center Blog Photos "When I see Burress, certainly in the past, and Edwards, their route running and adjusting, I didn't like it -- and I still don't," Namath told ESPNNewYork Tuesday. "I'll be surprised if Burress and (quarterback Mark) Sanchez click well and I'll be even more surprised if Burress, after being laid off for two years and change, is going to make it through the season."Burress, 34, spent 20 months in jail for illegal-weapons possession, missing the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He signed a one-year, $3 million contract on the eve of training camp, replacing Edwards as one of the Jets' starting receivers.Namath believes the time away from football, coupled with Burress' age, will be almost impossible to overcome."It catches up to the guys who haven't missed any time over the last two years," said Namath, who was in New York to promote Topps 2011 football cards. "It's Lady Luck, and I think it will (catch up to him), given the age factor and his position.""We're already talking about the feet -- the ankles, the feet," he continued, referring to the sprained ankle that forced Burress to miss the first preseason game. "There's a lot of running in a long season. I don't see it happening."Namath is an unabashed Jets fan, rarely speaking ill of his team. He wishes the best for Burress, who has three receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown in two preseason games."I hope he makes All-Pro, but the realistic side of me ... . The reality is, he'll be damn lucky if he makes it through the season," Namath said. The Hall-of-Fame quarterback described Burress and Edwards as undisciplined route runners that make it difficult for the quarterback to make precise throws. In Burress, the Jets believe they have a huge target (Burress is 6-foot-5) that will actually help Sanchez's accuracy because of his ability to outmuscle smaller cornerbacks.Namath agreed with that, but he also believes Burress tends to alter his routes, changing stride. He said Edwards sometimes slowed down when the ball was in the air."I've seen that in the past that I didn't like. I didn't like it with Edwards and I don't like it with Burress, especially when (Giants quarterback) Eli Manning was in his second and third year," Namath said, a reference to Burress' first two seasons with the New York Giants, 2005 and 2006.Overall, Namath likes the direction of the Jets, calling them one of the best teams in the AFC. He's a big believer in offensive-line play -- that's the old quarterback in him -- and he has some concerns about the Jets."I'm optimistic about the season, of course, because of where we've come from and the guys we have back, but that optimism ... . As soon as I start to think hard about it, it takes a little hit," he said. "I'm concerned about the offensive-line depth. Who do we have to take the roles of (Wayne) Hunter and (Rob) Turner? I don't know."Hunter and Turner were the top backups last season, but now Hunter is starting at right tackle and Turner is out for at least two months with a broken ankle. The Jets' offense struggled in Monday night's 17-3 win over the Giants. Namath believes the lockout, coupled with the additions of two new receivers (Burress and Derrick Mason), are making it hard for the offense."I know they're not as sharp as they want to be," he said. "For whatever reasons, they're just not there yet. They've got to get better and they know it." Bengals 2011 preview The Bengals' defense of their 2009 AFC North title was a spectacular failure. They won four games in 2010, and as they tumbled from contention, speculation turned to head coach Marvin Lewis' future with the club. His contract was up, and it would have been no surprise if he and the Bengals parted ways. However, Lewis and team president Mike Brown(notes), after an end-of-season meeting, decided to stay the course. Lewis returns for a ninth season, and for an organization not prone to making sweeping changes, it appeared it largely would be business as usual for the Bengals in the offseason. But the team was rocked by a trade demand from QB Carson Palmer(notes), who then followed through on a threat to sit out rather than play for Cincinnati. In the draft, the Bengals selected TCU QB Andy Dalton(notes), who could replace Palmer, who seemed poised to sit out in 2011 as of this writing. The Bengals believe Dalton is an ideal fit to run new coordinator Jay Gruden's version of the West Coast offense. Former Raider Bruce Gradkowski(notes) provides a veteran option if Dalton falters. One round before taking Dalton, the Bengals added Georgia WR A.J. Green(notes), one of the top prospects at his position in recent memory. Green's arrival preceded the departure of Chad Ochocinco(notes), who was traded to New England.Palmer-to-Ochocinco helped define the most successful stretch for Cincinnati since 1990. Now, all eyes are on Dalton-to-Green.OFFENSEJay Gruden, who replaces Bob Bratkowski, will install his version of the West Coast offense. The Bengals attempted 618 passes and just 428 rushes last season. Considering the Bengals had about a 50-50 run-pass ratio when they won the division in 2009, it will be no surprise at all if they run more, especially with a rookie quarterback expected to be at the controls.Quarterbacks: Rookie Andy Dalton likely looks to be the starter. He is a smart, instinctive passer who is best-suited for a West Coast scheme, where he can make a series of short, high-percentage throws, but he lacks arm strength and loses accuracy the further he has to throw. However, Dalton, who struggled somewhat during the preseason, has good poise. If he can correct some of his flaws and continue to improve, he could be a solid starter in this scheme. Ex-Raider Bruce Gradkowski is expected to back up Dalton and could spot-start if needed. Gradkowski can command a huddle and has some valuable starting experience to his credit, but he's on the short side for the position and lacks accuracy and arm strength. Dan LeFevour(notes) will compete to be the No. 3 quarterback. Arm strength is an issue for LeFevour. Carson Palmer, for the record, was placed on the reserve/did not report list on July 29. Owner Mike Brown has said the team will not trade Palmer, who likely would intrigue teams looking for a starting passer, even if he no longer is the elite talent he was before suffering several injuries in recent seasons.Running backs: RB Cedric Benson(notes) is a rugged inside runner who has been everything the Bengals could have asked for from a productivity and dependability standpoint since joining the club in 2008. The 5-11, 227-pound Benson has a skill set ideal for a tough, cold-weather division. He is capable of carrying a heavy workload and can wear down a defense, but he lacks long speed and is not much of a factor in the passing game. Benson's off-field issues are also a concern. Bernard Scott(notes) is quicker, faster and more elusive than Benson but would be best sharing the work with another back. Third-down back Brian Leonard(notes) is a very good pass catcher but is not fast. Cedric Peerman(notes) is smart and fast but also on the small side for the position. Rookie Jay Finley(notes) is a fast perimeter runner who will vie for one of the last RB spots. Fui Vakapuna(notes) and Chris Pressley(notes) are the top competitors for what likely will be one fullback spot.Receivers: WR A.J. Green has Pro Bowl-caliber talent and quickly could become one of the elite players at his position. Green possesses a rare combination of size and speed. He's a smooth route runner who can get deep and be dangerous after the catch. The sure-handed Green possesses a wide catching radius and will make his quarterback look good. He has just about everything you look for in the position. Jerome Simpson(notes) stepped into the lineup in place of the injured Chad Ochocinco late last season and flashed big-play potential. Simpson is a rangy, athletic, long-striding wideout who can be dangerous after the catch and an above-average red-zone target. However, he is still raw. Fellow fourth-year WR Andre Caldwell(notes) has more experience than Simpson but not as much upside. That said, he can be a solid complementary target. Slot receiver Jordan Shipley(notes) is quick and runs good routes but is slightly built and susceptible to taking some big hits working the middle of the field. TE Jermaine Gresham(notes) showed promise as a rookie and could take a step forward in his second season. He has the speed to stretch the seam but also has the movement skills to be effectively deployed on screens and shorter passes, where he has to be creative in space. Ex-Titan Bo Scaife(notes) suffered a shoulder injury in the third preseason game. If he's out for an extended period, Chase Coffman(notes) will be the No. 2 tight end. Reserve WR Quan Cosby's(notes) ticket to sticking on the roster will be special teams. Rookie Ryan Whalen(notes) will vie to make the club as a special-teamer and inside receiver. Terrell Owens(notes), the club's leading receiver last season, won't be back.Offensive linemen: OLT Andrew Whitworth(notes) emerged as one of the AFC's better left tackles in 2010 with a career-best season, one that was Pro Bowl worthy. Whitworth is a very good pass blocker. He allowed just 2½ sacks a season ago — a particularly impressive statistic, as the Bengals passed much more than they did in '09. He is also a solid run blocker.Jay Cutler Jersey Outlet, Premier Michael Oher Jersey Purple, Jay Cutler Jersey On sale, Richard Seymour Jersey Men, NFL Richard Seymour Jersey, Replica Michael Oher Jersey White, Replica Michael Oher Jersey Black, Premier Michael Oher Jersey White, Premier Jay Cutler Jersey Red, Jay Cutler Jersey Free shipping, Authentic Michael Oher Jersey White, Authentic Michael Oher Jersey Purple, Replica Jay Cutler Jersey Orange, cheap Jay Cutler Jersey, Richard Seymour Jersey White, Richard Seymour Jersey Black, Replica Jay Cutler Jersey Blue, Premier Michael Oher Jersey Black, Reebok Richard Seymour Jersey, Richard Seymour Jersey Replica, Replica Michael Oher Jersey Purple, Premier Jay Cutler Jersey Orange, Replica Jay Cutler Jersey Red

Not a total disaster, but the St. Louis Rams' starting units came up shot last night, underwhelming the heightened expectations they set for themselves. The second and third teams turned in some impressive performances. The starters, on the other hand, left their head coach displeased. Here's head coach Steve Spagnuolo:And if I know this football team like I think I do, I think they feel like I do about the performance in the first half. Because I don't think anybody is going to be blinded by the fact that we won the football game, and feel real good about it.Run defense, or the lack thereof, particularly upset the former defensive coordinator.I didn't think the tackling was very good, either. It's concerning. But we're not going to get alarmed here and panic. He's not going to panic, and neither should you. Week three of the preseason is a pivotal one. Teams start prepping for their third game using the players that mostly reflect who'll be in the starting lineup on opening day. Expect some names to change among the starter this week.Other than a few minor, precautionary injuries, the Rams did accomplish one key goal for preseason play: no injuries. Keep you fingers crossed. The St. Louis Rams have peveral position battles brewing at training camp this year. No position battle is as eagerly watched as the log jam at wide receiver. It's a horse race, beyond the top two spots anyway. Through some three weeks of practice and a couple preseason games, no candidates have really emerged to nail down the four or five roster spots behind Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson. Where do things stand as of the preseason's halway point ? Let's take a look. Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola cleary earned the starting jobs, barring some dramatic development. Amendola is his reliable self, looking for an offense that can give him more room to work this year. Before camp, many thought Gibson was a long shot to make the team, but he separated himself from the pack on the first day of camp. During the lockout we all speculated about who might be the Rams' version of Brandon Llyod in McDaniels' offense, and it looks like Brandon Gibson is it. As for the rest...Mike Sims-Walker - The most accomplished of any receiver, the Rams signed him to an incentive-laden one-year contract. So far, the results have been mixed. He had a terrible game this week, getting a late break and bobbling a pass that led to an interception. That was followed by a fall on 3rd-and-12 with the ball coming his way. He did make one nice catch later in the game. MSW missed practice almost all week, so he gets a mulligan for his performance on Saturday.Greg Salas - Playing in his first NFL game this week, Salas quickly bounced back from a dropped pass to catch three more. A quick guy with good hands and the toughness to play all over the field, I'll be interested to see what he does with more reps this week.Austin Pettis - Starting with the ones in the first week of the preseason, he muffed some easy passes and looked jittery. This week, he was with the second and third teams, as well as working on special teams. His size and hands, reportedly his best asset per scouting reports, should make him a great red zone weapon for the Rams. You have to think they'll have some preference for keeping the two draft picks selected by the current administration.Donnie Avery - In my opinion, he earned himself more reps with the first team next week. He looked great on the 19-yard TD pass from Feeley to start the second half, after a nice week in practice.Daranio Alexander - He played alright this week, but isn't doing much to stake his claim to a roster spot. Five knee surgeries, and already some missed time this summer, makes his NFL future cloudy. When healthy, he has the ablity to work deep and beat most corners with his size and style of play.Mardy Gilyard - The Rams really want to see what he can do as a returner, where his shiftiness could be a real asset. So far, he's been fine. He really stands out as a gunner on the kicking teams, and his special teams play could very well earn him a roster spot.Dominique Curry, Jared Jenkins, Greg Matthews and Joe West are also vying for a spot on the roster, one that will be difficult for them to earn given just how limited snaps are in a crowded filed of receivers. They've cobined for just one reception in the preseason. One of these players will land on the practice squad. And the winners are...If I had to make an educated guess right now, I'd say the receiver race shakes out like this:Amendola, GibsonSims-Walker - gets it based on his track record and I expect him to play better this week.Avery - He remided us that he has the talent. Keep a close eye on him this week in the all telling third preseason game.Salas - He won't last on the practice squad, and there's just too much potential here.Gilyard - The special teams play is telling.Pettis - It probably comes down to seven receivers for the Rams, and they won't want to let a third-round pick get away just because he had a rough preseason.Don't be surprised if receiver hungry teams come calling on the Rams. Guys like Mardy Gilyard or even Donnie Avery could be trade bait. They won't fetch a huge return, but with the reps they're getting teams in need will notice.Danario Alexander is the odd man out here, but he could easily play his way into the mix. Which players make your list?

UpdatedAug 22, 2011 12:25 AM ETThe Buffalo Bills' defense could not slow downDenver's passing game, and the Bills' offense could not find muchrhythm Saturday night. It added up to a poor showing by the Buffalo starting units inthe second preseason game of the summer.Denver's starters outscored the Bills' starters, 14-3, on thestrength of two touchdowns by former Bills running back Willis McGahee. The Broncos went on to win the game, 24-10.The Bills' starting defense, whichopened strong against Chicago last week, stopped the Broncos on thefirst drive of the game, but then gave up two long marches.Quarterback Kyle Orton drove his team 66 yards in 10 plays and 76yards in 10 plays.Denver outgained the Bills, 228-90, in the firsthalf.Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrickhad a rough night, completing 6 of 16 passes for just 44 yards. Thestarting offense played the entire first half.Orton was 10 of 13 for 135 yards with one touchdown and nointerceptions.Denver's second-string quarterback, Brady Quinn, was sharp, too.He completed 10 of 16 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown."Orton is an efficient passer," linebacker Nick Barnett said."We made some mistakes out there -- mixing up some coverages anddoing different things. Overall he's a good passer and an efficientone, but nothing we can't stop. We have to continue to work hardand do what we are supposed to do."McGahee scored on a 1-yard run with 14:21 left in the secondquarter. He added a 13-yard touchdown catch with 6:22 left.Fitzpatrick engineered a drive to a field goal on the Bills' first possession. But he wassacked once and took plenty of hits on the next three drives. Bills left tackle Demetrius Bellhad trouble with Denver's speed rushers. Fitzpatrick had the Bills marching in Denver territorylate in the first half but threw an interception when his passbounced off Marcus Easley's hands and into the arms of Denver'sD.J. Williams."We ran the ball effectively," Fitzpatrick said. "Unfortunatelywe didn't match that with a good passing game. So our drives werestalling because we couldn't get anything going in the air."There's a lot of stuff that goes into that. But it starts withme. I have to play better. I have to throw the ball better. We'relucky this is the preseason because that wasn't our best effort outthere."Two of the top rookies in the NFL looked good. Bills defensive tackle MarcellDareus, the third overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, had aquarterback sack on the first drive. Denver outside linebacker VonMiller, the second pick in the draft, had a sack on the seconddrive of the game by the Bills. The Bills got a touchdown early in thefourth quarter on a 15-yard pass from second-string quarterbackTyler Thigpen to receiver Felton Huggins. It capped an 80-yarddrive in 13 plays and 6:20. A 20-yard throw from Thigpen to Easleypreceded the TD play. Both the Bills and the Broncos went 4-12last season. The Bills' first defensive series was asuccess. Denver got one first down and was forced to punt after a5-yard sack by Dareus, who got pressure up the middle. Goodpressure by Chris Kelsay off right tackle forced the quarterback tostep up into Dareus.Denver's offense got rolling on its second drive.Screen passes hurt the Bills' defense. Denver backKnowshon Moreno gained 12 yards on a screen to the Buffalo 46, thenhad an 11-yard reception on an underneath crossing route to converta third-and-10 situation. Denver gained 20 more yards on a screento the left to McGahee to the Buffalo 1. McGahee capped the drivetwo plays later with a plunge over right guard. The TD pass to McGahee came on a flare pattern to the right. Itappeared Bills inside linebacker ReggieTorbor got caught up in traffic and couldn't get out to McGahee, who had a clear field into the end zone. The Bills marched 58 yards to a fieldgoal on their first drive. It lasted 6:21, went 13 plays and wascapped by a 40-yard field goal by Rian Lindell. It looked like the drive was stopped after three plays. But on afourth and 1 from the Buffalo 29, the Bills ran a fake punt, snapping tothe up-man, Brad Smith, and he ran for 4 yards and a firstdown.C.J. Spiller gained 22 yards on the march, including 14 on a runoff tackle to the Bills' 47. A slant pass from RyanFitzpatrick to Stevie Johnson gave the Bills 11 more yards, andFitzpatrick threw a screen pass to tight end Scott Chandler for 9yards to the Denver 30. On a third-and-10 play from the 22,Fitzpatrick had throw quickly and incomplete because Elvis Dumervilgot pressure wide on Bell.email:mgaughanTerms & Conditions |Privacy |Copyright |? 2009 LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. UpdatedAug 22, 2011 8:15 PM ETManchester United delivered a vibrant second-half performance to beat Tottenham 3-0 on Monday and make it two wins from two in the Premier League.Tottenham, seeking a first win at Old Trafford since 1989, kept the scoreline blank in the first half, with American goalkeeper Brad Friedel marking his Spurs debut with a full-stretch save from Tom Cleverley's well-struck shot.FOX Soccer PlusFox Soccer Plus is a premium network that provides the complete international sports experience and is the home of French soccer, with Ligue 1's season starting August 6.Upcoming live matches include ...August 23: Malmo vs. Dinamo ZagrebAugust 23: Rubin Kazan vs. LyonAugust 24: Exeter vs. LiverpoolClick here for more information on FOX Soccer Plus as well as its Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League, English FA Cup, nPower Championship, Carling Cup, and Italian Serie A offerings.United turned up the heat after the break and Danny Welbeck broke the deadlock in the 61st when he headed in Cleverley's precise right-wing cross.Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp responded with a double substitution on the 74th but two minutes later, Welbeck set up Brazilian midfielder Anderson to stroke home the second goal.Substitute Ryan Giggs crossed for Wayne Rooney to head in the third in the 87th to wrap up the win and leave the defending champions on six points from two games, behind league leader and cross-city rival Manchester City on goal difference.''The second-half performance was absolutely fantastic,'' United manager Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports. ''It was a fast game in the first half, it was end-to-end. Tottenham had a lot of possession, but in the second half we just took off.''Tottenham was playing its first game of the season after its opener was postponed in the wake of the London riots.Redknapp chose not to select Chelsea transfer target Luka Modric in his squad, but said afterward he expected the Croatian playmaker to stay at the club.''For sure, he's a fantastic professional,'' Redknapp said. ''We need him back playing.''We need one or two more players. We've got good footballers but we just lack a spine to the team. I know who we need and if the chairman can help me bring them in we'll be fine.'' UpdatedAug 22, 2011 8:18 PM ETORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)Having led the Buffalo Bills in rushing the past two seasons,Fred Jackson would like to be treated with a little morerespect.Jackson expressed his unhappiness following practice Monday, saying he feels underappreciated and uncertain of where hestands.''I feel like a No. 1 back,'' Jackson said. ''I feel like Ishould be treated like one, know what's going on, know where Istand and what the situation is.''He spoke after the Bills returned to practice following a 24-10preseason loss at Denver in a game second-year running back C.J.Spiller started and received most of the playing time with thestarters.Jackson said his concerns were not directed at Spiller, butinstead at ''everybody.''This isn't the first time Jackson said he's felt this way.He led the Bills with 1,062 yards in 2009, only to have the teamselect Spiller with the ninth pick in the draft the followingspring. Last year, Jackson opened the season third on the team'sdepth chart behind both Spiller and Marshawn Lynch. After Spiller sputtered and Lynch was traded to Seattle, Jacksonregained his starting job to once again lead the Bills with 927yards and five touchdowns.''It's been like this for two, three years,'' Jackson said.''I've got to keep fighting for what I feel like is my job.''His contract is also a sticking point, given that Jackson feelsunderpaid for his production. He's entering the third year of afour-year contract worth about $7.5 million. The one thing Jackson won't change is how he plays.''I'll continue to show up on the field,'' he said, ''make playswhen I get that opportunity.''Coach Chan Gailey said he considers both Jackson and Spiller tobe starters, and added he feels Jackson is ''a little bitahead.''What took Gailey by surprise was learning Jackson feltunderappreciated.''I would hate for somebody to feel that way because it's nottrue from my standpoint,'' Gailey said. ''Nothing's changed withour thoughts with Fred and where Fred is with our football team. He's a major part of what we're trying to get done here.''Against Denver, Spiller received the ball on four of Buffalo'sfirst six plays from scrimmage and finished with six carries for 10yards and two catches for 11 yards. Jackson had four carries for 34yards and added 13 yards on two catches. An undrafted free agent out of Coe College, Jackson has been theBills' most consistent offensive player the past two seasons. He'sa rugged runner, a capable receiver and has also produced as areturner on special teams. In 2009, Jackson led the NFL with 2,516 yards when factoring inhis 1,083 yards in punt and kickoff returns. He also became thefirst NFL player to have more than 1,000 yards in both rushing andkickoff returns.Jackson's comments highlighted a newsworthy day in which theBills are once again tinkering with their offensive line, with leftguard Andy Levitre filling at left tackle in place of DemetriusBell.A two-year starter, Bell was beaten at least twice againstDenver, including one that led to an 8-yard sack. The potentialswitch comes a week after Levitre was briefly demoted in having toshare starting time in practice at left guard with ChadRinehart.Gailey hasn't ruled out the possibility of having Rinehart startat guard and Levitre take over for Bell at tackle.Gailey also announced that receiver Donald Jones and rookierunning back Johnny White are expected to miss the remainder of thepreseason with head injuries after both players were hurt againstDenver.White was hurt when he was slammed to the turf when tackled byBroncos linebacker Mario Haggan. White was wheeled off on astretcher and briefly hospitalized but traveled home with theteam.Jones was shaken up while attempting to make a catch up thesideline, when safety Rahim Moore led with his right shoulder inhitting the receiver's helmet. Moore was penalized 15 yards for thehit.''It wasn't pretty,'' Jones said, noting he only watched areplay of the hit earlier in the day. ''It's football. Whether hethought it was legal or illegal, it is what it is. We play themagain in December. So, we'll see.''Jones said he feels fine, adding he's not suffering from anypost-concussion symptoms.Receiver Naaman Roosevelt will also miss a few weeks with anankle injury.Without going into detail, Gailey said veteran linebacker ChrisKelsay had ''a procedure'' that will force him to miss a fewdays.
